Interesting, positive review of MultitrackStudio

MTS gets so much less attention than it should. This is one of the few reviews I’ve ever seen of it.
*Please note that this review is for the desktop version of MTS. The iPad version has most of the functionality of the desktop version though and they have a very similar feel. I like both.
Comments
Thanks for the link. A very well written review indeed.
Wow interesting.. Thanks !
According to the app description there is a tempo editor, I assume there is a tempo track. Anyone knows if there is a signature track?
This is about the desktop edition though, wonder what's different between that and the Ipad version. Don't know how a desktop user would consider that. But I really appreciate a good written review (S.O.S with that "second opinion" section comes to mind) before any video, too bad most people seem to prefer the latter. MTS seems okay, but I am inherently skeptical of one dude maintaining a whole daw. So far the only ios DAWS without major AU problems seems to be the big ones (Cubasis or Logic, idk about the Roland one) with a whole team behind them. Was so hyped for BM and NS, what huge potential and unstable mess as soon as anything third party was involved.
According to the user manual, the iPad version has a tempo/signature track.
No mention of bit depth, and it can do 44 or 48KHz only.
I wont start about NS2, it has happened before. Shame it never got the attention deserved with such a nice design. It was not halfway rock stable for me with plugins. Back to MTS - how is the cross-platform functionality? Does it freeze tracks with plugins, or how does it work?
@tja thanks you for the info
16-bit for standard version. 24/32 bit and 32 bit floating for Pro version.

Maybe it changed in the years since I used it. Pretty sure pro version does 32bit floating though.
Watched this a while back, and especially the "pro" version has some really nice features
Thanks for sharing! I didn't even know this one existed.
It does feel a bit strange indeed. No real deal breaker though.
I just can’t see how this could improve my NS2+logic pro workflow.
I’ve always been really interested in this one. Probably more so than any other DAW that I haven’t tried yet. Cubasis is still my main but if I have the time and wherewithal one day I might try it out.
The author of the review comments that many will lament the lack of a vertical mixer, but oddly he doesn’t mention the lack of a traditional timeline where you can see all your tracks lined up. MTS unfortunately does not have that in either the desktop or the iPad version. That is my only major complaint about MTS.
This is something that has always concerned me about a number of good apps. I have no idea how these single individuals are able to maintain these complex apps and somehow make a living on it. Davy Wentzler puts out updates for Audio Evolution like every couple of days, it seems. And Giel Bremmer, the developer of MTS, is equally prolific. How they do it by themselves, I have no idea.
Of course, there have also been cases where the app was terrific but financial problems played a role in preventing the developer from spending more time on the app, and I think that is indeed a serious concern with apps developed by only one person.
From what I’ve heard, NanoStudio is one such app - excellent app and fantastic developer but apparently it just wasn’t paying the bills, so no more updates. It seems like Auria is also in a somewhat similar situation, though there have been some Auria maintenance updates recently. Anyway, my two cents.
It has the "song editor" and multi-midi editor where you can see all the tracks together, just not in the usual way.
I've started using MTS again recently and it's great once you get used to the quirks.
Especially as it's got multi-core support and I've been appreciating how well it performs with the lastest apps like Mariana, I can run multiple instances of it with lots of other apps on my 2017 pro 12.9, whereas AUM will struggle for me with multiple instances of Mariana.
After a lot of time playing with the different DAWs , on paper MTS seems to be the most feature rich. (AEMS and MTS are the closest thing to full pro grade DAW you can buy I think , but only from my paper comparison, I haven’t tried them yet)
How is MTS?
Does anyone have MTS and AEMS?
How do you compare them?
Anyway, what is your feeling of MTS? It’s $50 so I’ll probably pass but I want to know for the sake of iOS.
I have used both. workflow is idiosyncratic i think in both but for me far more elegant in MTS.
Any DAW is counter intuitive i think til you've learned it, and ive put in many more hours into MTS, and that may be why it is more fluid for me, but analyzing the number of steps and screens and pulldowns to get stuff done supports my feeling of the directness of MTS.
a full comparison of both would be a very long essay, but point by point questions are easier if you have any
you are right MTS is incredibly feature rich with many platform exclusive features, is very very stable...
Well then if performance is solid and all features work without issue what are some things you DONT like about it ?
Also Cubasis is king of workflows on iOS if you ask me. Many would agree. How is the MTS workflow in comparison if you have CB3? Can you compare some impressions that stuck you ?
If not that’s ok. Don’t mind my curiosity lol
I’m just really interested in a daw I can’t try but seems to be nearly equivalent to logic
TY
@yellow_eyez
I sometimes wish that MTS had its own onboard synth, both AEM and CB have pretty nice ones. (I prefer often to stay in a given DAWs sandbox, even given all the lovely connectivity that we have these days.). He does have a ton of Soundfont stuff including General MIDI and whatever you want to bring in
Alternative themes also would be sweet. A built in cliplaunch workflow add-on too. Yes there sre AUv3 for this purpose but again i prefer fewer or no plugs, as in fewer moving parts
Workflow is a personal thing for sure, and CB I do find to be a comfortable environment. I think my focus is ease and speed. MTS is ease and speed for me (partly, probably because of my many hours on task inside it, but also given thatI like what some consider Mr Bremmer's idiosyncratic approach)
TBH, the speediest of workflows on the platform is neither CB of MTS it is another underrepresented DAW here, FLSM. As with all DAWs on the platform there are tradeoffs to using GLSM compared to the other two. MTS has tons of platform exclusives and hosts every type of AUv3. FLSM does not do AUv3 which by itself is a deal breaker for many here.
Some notes about questions from up thread. A one man dev here is a great advantage. Unlike most DAWs Mr Bremmers is very nimble and committed, has been actively developing this thing in desktop since 2001 (which as noted above the two are nearly identical) To see how busy he has been check the updates on the AppStore
He responds nearly on the daily on his forum, and implements most suggestions if they make sense, including things that I've sought. Drum sampler to go with what I think is superior audio track edition for example He has done MIDI 2 before anyone else also with powerful MPE edition.
so an essay after all, I tend go on and on, ask my spouse
also-yes i do go on
MTS does a single screen editing tool for all midi tracks with both ghost notes of all tracks and editing focus for each track
and a screen for song editing that allows sectional editing for all tracks, the midi here is represented as waveforms and can be edited with the audio tracks using the tools shown
it is an unusual approach i guess, but it works well with his ideas for the main track page
