Who/What do you love?

edited December 2023 in Other

As 2023 draws to a close and we set sail for 2024 who or what stays on the raft? What do you let go?

I’m grateful for my new partner, Kim. She’s definitely aboard. And my new Kawai Novus 10s. And, of course, Cubasis3 @LFS are you listening? Happy New Year, mate. Oh, yeah, my newly gathered box of Indian spices. A must have for a long voyage.

Letting go of some heavy duty pain and loss in 23.

How about you?

  • Still have my loving wife on the raft. Have some new music making gear and my fishing tackle and rpg book collection are still aboard.

Sadly my bud Tucker (our dog) had to be put to sleep just before Xmas. As I rarely get out much due to my health, his company kept me sane. So, my sanity is likely to fall off the raft this coming year.

Fair tides to all whom sail the seas this coming year :)

  • Finally going to push Traktor for iPad off the raft and jump on the Pioneer train.

Love my OP-1 Field. It stays on the raft alongside Logic Pro for iPad. Normally I don't do subscriptions, but LP4i is a cheaper instant recording and mastering solution than any online services, and the results sound great!

I already dumped ProCreate Dreams off of my raft and successfully got a refund from Apple. Bought ToonSquid instead. At least I can turn off two-finger undo gestures in ToonSquid. (The side of my palm is shaped in such a way that it triggers the gesture when I rest my palm on the screen.)

One of my 2024 resolutions is to further my knowledge in animation, so ToonSquid is perfect for that.

Edit @Fruitbat1919 Sorry to hear about Tucker by the way. 😮‍💨 That sucks, especially around the holidays mate.

  • Well, my dog and my wife...in that order...just kidding...

@Fruitbat1919 : sorry to hear about your dog... <3

  • Cubasis have been thrown off the raft and replaced with a SP 404 MKII. Tried going back with the new instruments, but after getting used to zipping between my plug-ins in AUM with the search and a bit better stability, it's just too tedious having every new channel firstly default to a shitty piano, then scrolling forever to find plugins is not possible.

I love the Korg Monotribe. Finally retires my ipad as a couch instrument for just noodling out a quick pattern and so wonderfully analogue in sound. Nothing beats infinite resolution knobs, and the grittiness will be a welcome added sparkle to my mostly digital setup.

  • Just being alive with all it brings is good for me. After two completely out of the blue severe health issues in the last two years I’m just happy (and lucky) to be here. No after effects, still physically pretty good but @tekk has piqued my interest in an infinite resolution knob 🤨

Cheapest access to an analogue knob is yourself a Monotron, don't go and get hooked on that HW sauce now, you were doing well!

  • I'm just thankful for still being able to bring myself along for 2024!
2023 was a close call towards the end! 😬😅🤦‍♂️

I’m gonna buy a 404 in a couple of weeks to pair with my iPad. I’ll still use Cubasis to master some stems and record the output but it’s mostly gonna be all my iOS synths and drum machines being sampled into the 404. Also the Monotribe is excellent! So sad I sold mine for $60!! many years ago. Now they go for almost $300 and I miss it. You can really hear the MS20 sound in it.

  • My wife, our 3 cats, my friends, and my family. At the end of the day that’s all that matters.

Music wise I’ve been enjoying my Minilab3. It’s a great little controller. Gonna be buying the 404 in a couple weeks or so as a companion to my iPad so I’m excited for that. Hope everyone has a happy and fruitful new year
