Pink Floyd Dark side of the moon fiftieth anniversary competition entry.

This has kept me busy the last weeks and a bit over the whole year, much was done in the quiet last few days, fingers crossed I win something!

Hopefully a bit more energy to engage with other things, especially music now it’s done…

  • Damn! That’s fine. Back in my day we said “far out”. I still vividly remember the day I bought it at Tempo Records and Tapes in Downers Grove on Ogden Avenue. I played it until I could hear side B while playing side A. You got my vote, bro!

  • Bravo! That was excellent! It took me back to the days of The Old Grey Whistle Test when they played arty videos to accompany tracks when the artist was not in the studio. Best of luck in the competition !

Thanks guys, great that it brought back memories for you, I’m definitely in the arty video camp when I’m working with music peeps, one time overheard some Flemish lads whispering artsy fartsy while surreptitiously looking in my direction while on a stadium job in Holland. I don’t think it was meant massively kindly but I liked it 😅😂

  • Great work on the video. Good luck!

  • Loved it!
    Thoroughly!
    Good luck!

  • Some lovely bits in there Chris, I especially liked the bird. Good luck!

  • Cheers all, and yeah, the bird really makes it for me, wanna be riding the cosmic winds like that myself…

  • Lovely work, Chris.

  • Beautiful. It turned out really well! ❤️

  • Thanks everyone , praise is really taking the sting out of the trail of the epic migraine I’ve given myself getting this out the door this week 😂🥂👍🤘🙌🙏

  • Love it! Always very interesting to see the visual interpretation of an audio track.. I mean, it could go in any direction.. endless possibilities.. especially an audio track as well known as this.. ingrained into our brains.. I think we all have our own visuals to go along with this track + whole album.. which could change over time or because of our location or what we’re doing.. a wide open book..

I really like what you’ve captured + created here.. I can’t imagine the hours involved in a project such as this.. obviously a labour of love too..

Well done + best of luck in the competition.. also thanks for sharing..

  • The competition is for a music video, right?

    Indeed

Thanks Royor, I think it’s one of the earliest pieces of music I can remember listening to, so the images are well deep for me, not exactly what I first envisioned, but the feeling is there for sure…

  • Really captures the feeling! Good luck

Aah that’s lovely Mike, thank you, and soon the dragon year will sweep in change for us all, but especially rabbit folk such as myself…

  • Noice. I bet you had fun getting that heartbeat to sync at the start. Great visuals. The best of luck in the comp.

This was the first album I ever bought and more because of the visual element than knowing what sonic excellence I was going to discover inside the sleeve.

Cheers, and the heartbeat was the first thing I got right tbh, synced it up to 24fps and locked a looping set of key frames to it, took a few tries to get it perfect but once it was there, I pulled all sorts of triggers off it… funny though, just near finishing one of the layers got dragged 77 frames right and gave an interesting offset, but I put it back didn’t have time left to play with that too much as a concept…

It was a beautiful object, I should get a repro from somewhere as the one I remember from childhood is long gone in my mum’s purging of clutter…

  • Colin ( @AlterEgo_UK ) read my mind on this one, Old Grey Whistle Test was the first thing that I thought of and that can only be a good thing. Just needed Whispering Bob Harris to introduce it 🤟Top work !

  • I totally missed this... it's beautiful!

Ahh cheers fella, as you know, I'm thinking of stripping the sound off and doing a 'silent film' type thing with it here so that I could enter it into festivals / competitions... the music / sound would have to be signed off as being owned by the creator and that they're happy for me to use it in that context...

I'm a bit concerned that it might not be fair though, I'll have to pick something I think works best for selection and that might not sit well with those who aren't picked... maybe the upside could be that anyone could use it as their own music video, although it would no longer be unique to them...

I think this is could be a good idea and also good exposure if the music is credited! I say put it up for a vote to see if people are up for it? Can't be worse than Rishi's election announcement!!!
