Rant ensuing. I rarely post but ..

Not sure what the issues are or how someone had the idea to bring up seperate threads for free/on deal music apps which would be twice the work but @Poppadocrock does provide a nice little service for this community that’s been supremely beneficial to me.

Making great, universally loved, and creative apps that benefit everyone is an impossibility. Being able to share these rare apps would be even more challenging.

Trying to segment the forum to fit some daft idea of what you think it should be is asinine. Making them into different threads because you can’t be bothered to read a few words about apps that don’t interest you, reeks of privilege.

Any complaints of a free service provided to the community are a bit ridiculous, I'm sure most of us would agree. If you’re bored enough to think up some unnecessary ideas like that and post it..

I promise you, your thoughts are safe.

Or better yet, use that time to create some music. Post it. Share it. Provide value. Let’s use the forum to its advantage. Not complaining about some hare brained half assed idea.

You rock, @Poppadocrock - Thanks for this thread, Cheers.

  • Cheers all. I really appreciate the support and respect the ideas. I meant to add a paragraph to the initial post with a brief explanation of my curation process but kept forgetting. Hopefully I’ll get to it soon. That might help with understanding some of the reasoning behind it. Cheers! Yall stay up.

No offence intended to @Poppadocrock who obviously does a great job maintaining this thread, probably the one I read first. But, I have some concerns about downloading some of the apps promoted and wrote about it here:

    https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/59760/apple-s-protection-from-nefarious-developers

The concerns are probably unwarranted but I wondered if other people shared them?

I also read this thread often, and I don't share this concern.

My issue is the signal to noise ratio. I know @Poppadocrock does a great job finding many of the excellent sales, but I wonder if it would be better to have one thread for iOS music-making app sales, and another thread for sales on all the art/productivity/AI etc apps that frequently get listed here. Personally I'm not interested in the latter, as I only come to this forum for iOS music tools. It's possible I'm missing good stuff as I scroll past all the posts that are irrelevant to me.

Perhaps others share this concern. But if I'm in the minority, please just ignore my request!

He does all of this on his own time. It’s not his job. If you don’t care for the thread he posts you should probably find a different one.

Thanks @Poppadocrock, I appreciate the effort you put into this thread.

I'd be grateful to learn more about your process and the reasoning behind it. I think there's merit in having a respectful discussion about it. Clearly some would prefer the status quo, while others would prefer the thread to be more focused on music apps. Ultimately it comes down to what the community wants, and what is reasonable for you @Poppadocrock.

May I respectfully ask for those who have strong feelings on this matter to please engage with kindness, politeness and an open mind. There's no need for insults.

It’s not the status quo, friend. He does this on his own time. It does not come down to what the “community” wants. The way I see it, unless you’re paying him you have no right to try to pressure or manipulate him to do things for you.

Well, it's been a minute for me and ios music. After a year of binging 6 hours in the studio daily or more I had to cut myself off, but was able to identify that I probably have some adhd tendency around hyper focus. Anyway, after a year plus hiatus I came back to tunes and lurking the forum... And I immediately I wanted to check up on poppa's thread.

Guys, the man is not here to do anything for the "community."He is doing this out of the goodness of his own heart and we should either appreciate it or have the good graces to start our own thing if what he's doing isn't what we want.

I think what the "community" wants comes into play in regards to manners, tone, and community guidelines for how we engage each other. Not what any individual should do with his own time and energy. If the community thinks I should be making chiptunes instead of dark ambient, it doesn't mean I'm obliged to change my musical goals. It would be absurd.

Poppa, you're a real one and I for one have found multiple music apps for my 6 year old daughter through your hard work that have introduced her to different cultures's music and ways to make beats that have inspired her and broadened her horizons. Thank you.

If you only want music app sales then why not just go to App Sliced for that info?

My only complaint with this thread is that I already purchased 95% of the music apps on sale and probably at a higher price. But as Warren Buffet advises: “Timing the market is a fools errand.” I guess that means I invested for the long haul and should see returns sometime this decade assuming AI doesn’t make human creativity passé. (I just figured out how to put that l'accent aigu by adding a French Keyboard).

    >
I use the azerty keyboard, but even in the standard anglophone qwerty keyboard you can accent letters by doing a long press on the letter you want to accent. A range of accents then becomes available.

  • I’m lazy, and I don’t have time every day of every year to make posts for apps and in-app discount purchases, so having some diligent editors who do this for free is a godsend. 😂

  • It’s gotta come up at least once a month it seems whenever there is a new member

Pogo Punk Drums FREE. It is some endless drum loops to practise over (or sample).

  • Anyone who does anything will inevitably run into those who don’t want to do what he/she is doing but would like to suggest a better way of doing it. On good days you ignore them and on less good days you tell them to do it themselves if it’s important to them.

Thanks, Poppa, for the service you provide. I’ve yet to find anyone doing it better.

Same. My 4 year old kid loved one of the free music apps you posted here, and yesterday you posted another one :-)

lol. Yea it does come up a couple times a year and I have discussed it before but it’s buried deep in previous year’s threads. I’ll add something to the original post in the coming days, but basically it’s music first, then graphics and photos which musicians need. Plus creatives typically dabble in multiple mediums. Then tools utilities productivity to get stuff done. If it’s free then the bar for posting is slightly lower, lol, cause it’s a freebie. I guess if it’s something people in this forum might find useful in some way I share it. Cheers all.

I don’t want a separate music app thread. I actually suggested that myself a while back, and was advised that this style is preferable to most users. And I’m OK with that.

I would like a separate thread where someone can politely and inoffensively make that suggestion without being snidely told to take their daft ideas, and their entitled attitude, elsewhere.

What’s especially strange is that each time the host of this forum (thx, @Poppadocrock, yer cool) acknowledges he welcomes suggestions, others who apparently have no official rôle in this this thread demand such innocuous interlocutors behave or begone. That sounds pretty entitled too, doesn’t it?

This is indeed a forum for old men, no other breed so bitterly-tempered and irrational as us (61)

By the way, how do you delete yourself as user? I sent an email to support requesting this a few days ago, but I am still here, obviously. I don’t really want to be around to ignore the spittle-flecked backlash I expect to this post. LOL

    thx, @Poppadocrock, yer cool

    Haha.

  • Fortunately, none of the commenters flipping out here over suggestions as to how this thread might be changed/improved...

are piping up in other threads, to make suggestions as to how apps could be changed/improved. That would be funny though, wouldn't it? If anyone here was that self-unaware/hypocritical?

Is this trolling? Because this looks like trolling.

After all, it’s your thread, and guess what? It's the most popular one on the forum. Thank you for that. A little stirring here and there will not do any harm, it will only make it stronger and more focused.

Dude you’re cool. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I’m open to suggestions. I did try to do 2 separate threads a couple years ago and it was to much to handle. I even tried a separate stumbled upon thread too, but just folded that into this one.

    Cheers!

Update. I missed the fact that deleting the profile was a joke, oops, lol.
