Minuet in G - BWV 114

@GeoTony recently reminded us of the considerable talents of both J.S Bach and W Carlos so I thought it would be nice to arrange a Minuet as a New Year palette cleanser.
I picked one of my childhood favourites, in study Book 1 of many instruments, and you're all guaranteed to know this piece.

But while looking for cover art I was shocked to learn that it isn't by Bach at all.
Bach collected pieces for his own interest and for his wife and children, and this was one of those pieces he found, originally composed by Christian Petzold, an organist like Bach.

There's not much to say around production for this one.
I wanted to preserve as much of the original as I could and it's a hallmark of music of this period that it generally works on whatever instrument you play it on.

I added a vibraphone like pad and percussion, and all instruments come from Garageband. I'm away from home right now and just played in the melody on the iPad's on screen keyboard. I left it unquantised as while perfect timing is suited to Bach, its not my thing :-)

  • I really like your arrangement. Especially the slide / bent notes. The timing felt perfect for the piece. Well done.

  • That is an interesting take👍🏻

  • Great take on a timeless and beloved classic. I love original music, but I also love hearing new arrangements of existing material. I like to hear what others are hearing within the same song. Very well done!

Petzold! He and I lifted many a tankard in 1656. What a year that was! Coffee, sugar, no stds! Only The Plague to worry about!

  • Yes the note bends are nice.

“How gentle is the rain, de dit de dit…”. Can’t remember the rest.

  • I’m glad I reminded you 😊 Lovely gentle piece. I’m sure Bach would have loved all the technology we have available now.
