Incredible video of the grandaddy of all synths

Still trying to wrap my head around the fact that this was originally invented in the 1940's. 😲

Shorter demonstration from 1948 in German.

  • Wow I didn’t know about that. Cool that wiggling the finger gave notes vibrato.

    MPE of course

  • One of my dream iOS apps/plugins is for someone to recreate all these classic, old, half forgotten synths. Like this or any of the things Raymond Scott invented.

  • Mmm, watching the first video makes me doubtful that all those sounds are coming from that box.

Seems like quite a lot of playback action that likely was used a lot in tv at the time.

I’m particularly suspicious of the violin reproduction. Seems very advanced electronic sound design for 1930’s.
