How do you copy and paste clips in Gadget?

I can't figure out how to copy and paste clips in Gadget. I think I have the copy right by using the function button, but I don't a paste listed when you select function.

Comments

  • When hit the function button you get the overlay which gives you options to copy, delete, mute etc.

Hit copy on the desired clip and then you can hit copy again on the location you want the copy to appear.

Thanks. When you are in function mode and hit copy on a clip, the copy button on the other clips starts flashing. I don't know why Korg couldn't have just labeled it paste.

Gadget is a great app but it has a weird user interface.

  • I know what you mean. That said, it is fast becoming my most productive app. I get stuff together so much quicker than anything else. If they keep developing it and improve the mixing options with a multi fx gadget where multiple instances could be added as inserts and also group tracks and sends were available we would have a serious production tool on our hands.

I agree. I'm starting to see its' abilites. The instruments(gadgets) are very powerful. My main problem with it is that it doesn't play well with others. I've posted elsewhere about its' MIDI sync and IAA/AudioBus problems with Cubasis. And it would be great if it could export MIDI data from its' sequencer.

Here's a recent post from another forum about some of the problems with Gadget.

    http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=92272&sid=8d13681229a1b9f158c6c8e5f6ad6d90

  • Yeah, it has some way to go on the integration front. But that is true for a lot of iOS apps. AudioBus does a great job and IAA is getting there, but sync stability is clearly still a challenge, as is MIDI latency.

My workarounds involve developing workflows that get the best I can from iOS generally. For example, create some simple loops as building blocks using some of the outstanding synth apps wired into Cubasis and add some light processing with the available fx. Take said loops into Gadget and develop a track, taking advantage of the gadgets and the easy sequencing environment Gadget provides. Export single tracks and mixdown and master in Cubasis. Although I'm getting tempted with Auria for the pure audio work, might invest once I'm happy to move over to iOS 8.

  • ^^^ I like.

I've been trying the same but also using Samplr and Sector to get interesting loops / vocal elements / slices for the new Gadgets.

And I skip Cubasis at the moment and just use audioshare for simplicity and master as best I can in Gadget. But I think I need to learn more about processing / mastering / EQing the different elements before and after Gadget.

But Gadget totally rocks in terms of building up a whole track... So much more than any other DAW I've tried. Something about not having to scroll endlessly to the left and right maybe :).

Thanks Xen and Matt for describing what you are doing when working on a song. I'm learning a lot from you guys.

Xen and I want ask you about taking loops from Cubasis into Gadget. I use loops as building blocks when I'm creating a song. How do you get them into gadget? I didn't know Gadget has an import feature.

  • You need to get the extra gadgets that were released as IAPs a few weeks ago. Bilbao is a 16 pad sample player and you can import samples up to 5 seconds long. Abu Dhabi is a loop slicer and splits a loop over 16 pads, the samples can be up to 10 seconds long.

There were a few threads on here when Gadget got updated and the IAPs got released that discuss these. Opinions on both sides about whether they represent value for money. They work for me, but you may want to have look through them to see if they are for you. Doug (thesoundtestroom) also posted a video reviewing them.

  • @matt

Yeah, I was using Cubasis to build loops that have drums, bass and lead pre-mixed, but the track I'm just finishing is making me think bringing them into Gadget individually would have worked better.

I'm with you on Sector, not used it in a track yet, but that is where I'm heading. I've been tempted with Samplr, is there anything it does or has that is unique? I have a few options for sampling and have over-stocked on apps in the last couple of months, so I am just aiming for apps now that add something I can't already do.

Following on from the track I posted the other week, where all the post-Gadget processing was done on the master bus run directly through Final Touch, I've currently got 12 audio tracks exported from Gadget which I am mixing in Cubasis. I should be done by the weekend and I'll post on the Gadget tunes thread you've started.

@zen. Samplr is a lovely app. One of the best UIs going.

It lets you automate the manipulation of 6 samples simultaneously, very creatively, synced to bpm. You get things like an arp, a bow, tape style slowdown and speed up, pitch shifting etc.

I think you could probably achieve everything in other apps but it's all in one place here and you have such great control from your finger tips, over 6 samples at the same time. It's fantastic and I think you should buy it :). Very inspiring.

In fact that track I posted in the new thread started life as me playing around in sampl with a drum track, some vocal samples and some effects. I then actually remade most of it in Abu and Bilbao (rather than samplr) - but Samplr was used as a quick scratch pad to try ideas. It's great for that.

Look forward to hearing the new track.
