Sequencing sample slices at their original timing?

Haven’t been able to find this yet. Anyone knows what apps are able to auto-slice a sample by transient and automatically put the samples in the original order and timing in the sequencer for playback?

I believe on the MPC 1000 this was called ‘phrased’. I think ableton also does this. But have no idea which apps on ios do this.

    BeatMaker 3

There are a couple of others (Neon and Auditor?) that don't have a sequencer that can export a midi file like that to play the slices. It seems like there's another one or two out there that I can't remember.

This would be an excellent feature request for Koala. I think I'll do just that on the Discord unless someone (hopefully!) points out I've just missed something.

  • FL Studio Mobile does this using the Slicer. It auto-slices and auto-fills in the original to the piano roll automatically.

Auditor can slice and export the slices and midi to play them. ReSlice can do it but I think you have to share->email to get the MIDI file.

  • Logic’s sampler can do it too

    Cool. I forgot about that.
Man what I wouldn't give for Slicex as an AUv3.

  • Cool thanks guys! Guess I have to dive a little deeper into Beatmaker 3.
I figured it would be a great way to have a sampled melody match up with the timing of some rhythmic elements for instance. By copying the rhythmic midi and have it also trigger the melodic slices (by transient)

That is a good use for that type of midi export.

Another way to accomplish that is with a transient detector such as FAC Transient. You can make that one listen to an input and output midi messages when the transients are detected. You can do this with Drambo and miRack too.

That kind of transient midi slicing is also great for messing around with the original rhythmic sample, playing it back in different orders, taking out beats, etc. It also can work very well for changing the tempo on some types of audio without having to resort to stretching.
