How to use Midi clock with any of the Lumbeats apps?
I really like the various Lumbeats apps, and would like to have something like Rock or Jazz drummer be the master, and use Midi clock out from the app to sync an external device (in this case the Boss SL-2 slicer) to the Lumbeats app.
Has anyone been able to do something like this successfully?
I’m failing miserably at it here; any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I’d highly suggest trying Ableton Link and then using Audiobus or Link to Midi as a bridge. Lumbeats apps aren’t always the greatest for midi implementation, but seem to work well with Link.
Audiobus excels at this and has the advantage of per device timing adjustments. Just be sure to add a system audio output node so that Audiobus doesn’t shut down in the background.
But out of curiosity, what problems are you seeing?
I’m using an iConnectMidi2 interface, and for some weird reason, when I connect it through the USB dongle (Apple version) the audio from the Lumbeat app disappears, and returns when the interface is disconnected. The midi settings on the Lumbeat app show the iConnect destinations for midi clock and midi notes, but no assignments will restore audio. It’s been a while since I’ve worked in the box, and I’m sure I’m missing some important techniques to get this working. Is there a way to connct this through Audiobus or Aum that might be more successful?
Ideally, I want to be able sync the Sl-2 to the Lumbeat clock, and record the results to Auria, but am open to other ways to accomplish this.
I suspect the iPad is detecting the iConnectMidi2 as an audio interface, and routing the audio output there. Traditionally, iOS can only use the last audio device connected. If you open Control Center and tap on the radiating circles icon in the upper right, it should show the output device name.
This does seem to be the case; once it connects, it now shows the iConnectMidi2 as the source Airplay is connected to and shuts off the iPad sound, although this is strictly a Midi interface with no audio capabilities.
I set automatic Airplay to off, but it still switches to the iConnect once it is detected. I have some simpler cheap midi interfaces somewhere; I’ll try to find one and see if it does the same.
I just tried using a cheapie Midi interface, and it does not cause this problem. I set it to send Midi out to the the Midi in on the iConnect connected to another iPad, and the MidiToolbox app shows that I now do indeed have Midi clock being received from the Lumbeats Funk Drummer!
I think that should solve my connections problem; I wonder what it is about the iConnect interface that causes this; I’ll try contacting them to see if this is a known problem.
Thanks to all for your kind help!
When I look up iConnectivity MIDI 2, all I get references to is the iConnectivity MIDI2+ which does have an audio interface. Is that not the one you're using? A pure midi interface should never take over the audio.
This interface actually does have the ability to do some sort of audio over USB, which I knew nothing about; this is why it was taking over the audio.
After a fair amount of poking around on their software app for the interface (this has an incredibly deep feature set for a Midi interface, and the company has no phone support like so many others these days) I was finally able to shut off the USB audio portion, and now it functions as I would expect, and transmits Midi clock from the app as intended. Yes!
