Pastoral

This one was a bit different. My wife gave me a title and a picture, and instructed me to write something to go with it. Yes dear. In a recent post, @LinearLineman used some electric pianos to good effect, so that’s where I started. I used an EP patch from iM1 that had some interesting wind chimes in the mix. Then I punched in some arpeggiated chords using Ravenscroft, in the MIDI editor. I added Jubal Flute, but it’s pretty far back in the mix. I added some vocal bits and few sound effect from Blocs Wave. Some Fender bass with some string noise and a few guitar chords, and a little cello part. That’s about it. Hope you like it. Peace!

  • Good one, Paul. It’s like a recipe (been watching those). The ingredients add in and at 1:04 the wok sizzles as the meat hits it. Tasty!

I used iM1 early on. In my first iOS track, actually. I began with Xequence and shifted to Cubadis pretty quickly after that.

Reminds me of Benihana. Somebody once asked me what my favorite type of architecture was. I said… a steakhouse! We’re going to Jack Gibbons Gardens tomorrow. Google it. They have been in business for over 100 years at the same location. They make a great Martini. We will toast to you and Kim.

  • Thanks, Paul. I’ll feel the vibe. Indian food tonight at home. But maybe we’ll toast you and Karen with a gin gimlet!

  • The important question : did she like it?
I like the serene feel of it.
If this is a recipe, you used just the right mix.

She said she did, but she always says that about my music. She seems to like the mellow stuff. Hope things are going well for you and yours. Have a great day!

  • Making music for someone is tricky. I’m glad she appreciates your gifts.

That iM1 reminds me how those Korg workstations were loaded with dreamy Presets that could have extras like wind chimes so one person in a band context could bring extra textures to a band… this led to the keyboard dude not really needing anyone else except good singers to get famous and good singers kept right on getting famous and changing their producers.

I like those extra touchs you add using Blocks Wave. That’s a company that seeks to reduce the requirement for keyboard skills as Korg and Akai did by putting sounds and sequencing behind programmable pads.

We’re waiting for the AI app that replaces to good singer… examples have surfaced and the real good singers need a new partner: a lawyer.

I think the gifts she likes the most come from Marshall Fields. She’s a girl after all.
I love the iM1 presets. I played in a Ukrainian/American wedding band for a few years and the keyboard player used an iM1 to simulate the ethnic instruments. We were the only band that serviced that market in Chicago and we did pretty well. After I left they went on to become Vesely Chasy. I think that means Good Times. They were the band featured in the wedding scene in the Michael Keaton movie My Life. I dig jazz and rock, but I love a good polka, too. It’s the ultimate party dance.

Here is one of my favorites. Vicky has a beautiful voice. I don’t know what the words mean.

  • A live band that gets really tight is a true marvel irrespective of the genre. Looking at my history, that would include:

Big Bands where I played drums or vibes
Percussion ensembles that played and performed that same arrangement over and over picking up speed as we toured.
Concert and Marching bands through the marching bands were at a disadvantage due to the laws of physics. How tight can
you be spread out over 50 yards.

I try and control these details on IOS and get the best results with percussion presets. Once I grab a wind or string instrument things go south.

  • Very relaxing 😎
Just watched a video on Blocs Wave, looks interesting 🧐

Absolutely! A great band transcends any genre. We were called Akyla, and we were working almost every weekend. I wore a tuxedo! We played some really nice rooms. I’ll never forget the Ukrainian/American debutante ball at the Congress Plaza Hotel. OMG! We brought our lighting system, but the Chicago Electrician’s Union wouldn’t let us plug it in without greasing a few palms, so we played in the dark. It was still a great gig.

Speaking of going south… I hope I can one day. We had a winter storm today, so I took a vacation day and played with my iPad. Have a great day, bro.

It’s a great app for the price. Anything you buy for Launchpad works in Blocs Wave. It’s great for coming up with ideas if you’re drawing a blank, which I often do! Have a great day.
