Lydia

This is entirely experimental, avante garde and strange. There are four “musicians”, a Fender Rhodes, an acoustic grand, a Fender fretless bass, and a flute player. The only instructions were to play Lydian mode in D at 40bpm. Hence the title. All parts were recorded without any of the players hearing the others. What could possibly go wrong? The mix could be a bit better, but we’re going out tonight.

I wish you would transpose either the piano or the rhodes up an octave… they both keep playing in the same octave it seems and prevent accidental chords and interesting intervals from coming out of the muddy note clusters. It’s nice when the flute arrives to open up the spectrum but there’s still mud below.

If you do go in for a re-mix please consider some octave transposition to one of these parts.

And maybe turn up that flute in the bargain.

I hope your night out was worth rushing the job… :^)

Better. I can hear the bass lines much better now: less muddy. I think the solo instruments could be much more forward in the mix and start earlier to please your wife. Frankly, it’s a little boring compared to your usual work. I rarely this candid here but you always delight me and this is not something I’d expect from you.

I just got an idea and went with it. It got a lot more plays on SoundCloud than I thought it would. It seems the high energy stuff gets more listens. My next one is definitely high energy.

  • The tattooed lady! Glad you had fun last night, bro.

  • Well I quite liked it . Didn’t seem at all experimental, avante garde or strange. Relaxing and melodic perhaps ?

  • @LinearLineman @GeoTony Thank you, gents. Have a great night.
