Dry January

Anyone else doing one?

Managed to get over the danger zone which is Fri and Saturday night. I’m missing it but my body is happy I’m without it.

Does make me think I’m borderline alky.

Haven't drunk alcohol for over 20 years so yeah, I'm doing dry January, February, March...etc etc...I wasn't a nice person when I'd had a few so made a choice between my relationship and health or the bottle. Really tough at first but haven't looked back...

  • I've been dry for 200 days. No great advice from me but I'm happy to lend an ear.

  • Its my birthday in January.

So, No. I would like to have anice glass of wine with a birthday meal.

When I was younger my birthday was always at the wrong time. People were either broke after new year, doing dry January/probably a bit of both so it always ended up being a bit of a damp squib.

I don’t get drunk. I don’t drink too much but I like a nice glass of wine with a good meal.

I'm doing that right now too. Now for the fifth year in a row.

  • I have been sober for 6 month and I can really recommend it 😊.

I’ve also done quite a few years in a row. Just need to extend it past Jan. I’m sure my body would appreciate having a good couple of months off the booze.

  • I’m doing it. Every January I like to go dry (alcohol and weed) and combine that with various fasting techniques just to give my body a reset. This years it’s especially important for me since I’ve been injured on and off again all damn year and not really able to exercise anywhere close to what I normally do.

So far in 6 days I’ve lost 12lbs (admittedly 3-4lbs of that was likely just Xmas food still going through my digestive system) and really haven’t been missing the craft beer all that much. Hoping to lose 22lbs total, even if that means taking the fasting techniques into February a week or two.

Definitely planning on cutting back on alcohol a lot even after this though. Over the years my already high tolerance has gone up to much, and it’s pretty obvious I’m not really getting anything out of drinking every night. Well, except calories.

    Weed on the other hand…🤔

  • Not because it’s January, it because I stopped habitually drinking alcohol some years ago. I have a beer or two once in a while, but think it’s been at least 3 or 4 months since I last had one.

@cyberheater - I used to drink pretty much every Friday and Saturday too in the past, and there were times that it would be most days. It’s definitely good to take a break from it just to see what it does to your body and mind, and lets you see if the warning signs are there. I have way too many friends who are high (and in some cases not so high) functioning alcoholics.

Yeah. I feel the same way. The negatives are starting to outweigh the positives.

  • I thought this was a challenge to make a track without effects

We’re trying to live without third party effects! 🙂

  • No reverb for you!

    lol. Only pan and gain.

  • I'm a public school teacher, so I usually don't drink much during the school year: it's hard to keep up the energy level otherwise. So yeah, I'm back to zero alcohol now that the winter break is over.

This is my aim to not drink again.. ever. It finally hit me , I can’t drink sensibly so it’s best (for me) not to start. Taking it one day at a time and really enjoying new found enthusiasm and energy.

Bye bye alcohol and hello life!

    FutureJonah salutes you Sir.

  • Been dry and sober for 5 and a half years.
For those giving it for good because of addiction issues I congratulate you on your choice to stop. I thought learning Paganini and Bach was hard getting clean was the hardest fucking thing I have ever done. My life has improved in ways I could have imagined, or to mention I play better than ever without all the chemicals. Good luck to those quitting stay strong it’s worth the fight trust me

  • 11 months sober here. Spent a month in rehab back in February and am thankful to be alive and sober every day. Never imagined I could live without drugs and booze, now don’t miss them at all. Music has been the perfect partner in my recovery.

  • Managed to stay off the booze across the weekend. Result!

    Now to keep going.

Congratulations. Once they’re gone for long enough, the appeal is low.

  • My partner’s birthday is this minth, so absolutely not.

Also, I prefer moderation to any kind of arbitrary zeroing. shrug To each their own though.

  • Life without hangovers is a beautiful thing.

Also, you can get a lot more stuff done, especially the stuff that's important to you.
