Controlling AUM start/stop with Akai Force
Hi.
I’m using an Akai Force with my IPad and am using AUM in the IPad.
I was wondering if it’s possible to have the play button on the Akai Force to start the play button on the AUM app so they play in sync with each other.
Thanks.

AUM transport controls can be triggered externally from a MIDI source with any of these events:
Note
Program Change
CC
Pitchbend
Channel Pressure
So, when you press “start” on the Akai Force does it send (or can you program it to send) one of those events?
You may need a MIDI monitoring target app to observe the MIDI traffic from the Akai. “Streambyter” is free and has
a magnifying glass icon that turns it into a powerful MIDI monitor.
If you can send one of these events for start, stop and/or toggle the AUM transport then you will need to roiute the Akai’s MIDI stream to “MIDI Control” in AUM and assign the precise MIDI events to the Transport functions.
The AUM transport can also respond directly to MMC (MIDI Machine Control) messages, if the Akai Force happens to send them. These are multibyte SysEx messages beginning with 0xF0 0x7F.
They will start/stop at the same time with midi learn, but they won't necessarily stay in sync unless you use Ableton Link. If you do use Ableton Link, and the Force supports Link Start/Stop which I assume it does, then you don't need to do anything else to get the two to act in sync.
If you don't want to use WiFi though, then you'd have to use midi clock and an app such as Audiobus to bridge midi clock to Link.
That works like a charm for my Bluetooth Keyboard (M-Wave SMK-25):
Thanks for your advice everyone.
I was in touch with Akai and they said the Force can send MMC messages but must use a 5 pin din connection.
I need to configure AUM to receive these.
I assume that I can use the midi to usb that I use to connect the IPad to the force already?
I’ll try it out.
Just a quick update.
I got everything working so thanks for all your advice.
It’s a great setup.
