iOS app for CV Clock In -> Tempo?

Ableton's CV Tools has a neat plugin that takes audio from an analog CV clock and uses it for the project tempo. It seems like Drambo or miRack are able to do this?; I've never used them. My goal is to loop MIDI notes and use tempo from CV as the clock.

I think mirack can do this. I know drambo can receive gate or clock for timing but you can’t effect the project tempo afaik but some Drambonaut probably knows the way.

  • There used to be an app called "Beat Detect" that was able to sync to incoming clicks and sync that to Ableton Link. My personal experience with these kind of solutions that try to use an audio input as clock input is that they are often not very reliable, and you get a lot of jitter in the synchronization. I would suggest two ways forward:

    • If the device that provides the CV clock can at least provide MIDI note messages, then use these for synchronization instead of the CV clock.
    • Hardware: A Korg SQ-1 sequencer for example can sync to incoming clock pulses and provides MIDI clock via USB or DIN.

Not the project tempo but it should be possible to build something reacting on CV clock from an audio input that controls sequencer modules.
If your hardware supports analog clock input, it would be a better idea to let Drambo send it.

  • Thanks for the replies everyone. It seems this hole is going to be too deep to follow so I'm deciding to stick to hardware for this one. There's someone on my local Marketplace selling a Bastl Midi Looper, and that looks like it has exactly what I need.

Hi, I thought I'd leave an update for those who may come across this thread. Thanks to miRack, it is possible to sync an iOS device to an analog CV clock. I have a 24 PPQN clock coming out of my Moog GM, into the input of the audio interface, routed to the BPM input of a "Clocked" module on miRack. Voilà! I'm also using miRack as an AUV3 host for Koala Sampler, so now I have Koala and Moog tightly in sync

    Great find, thanks!
