UPDATED::SeeBelow::MIDI ....or something..... Changing Sunrizer Presets

Update 01/08
Sure enuf, as suggested by the best iPad users in the business, right here on AudioBus forum...... there's a PC message in there after routing the MIDI to MIDI Monitor. I have Xequence, but I'm not certain "how" to find it and remove it in Xequence.
I also wonder if it is simply certain "settings" in Atom Roll that I have. I used the Process->Velocity->Variation (as shown) to add volume changes as this is a string pad.

Any thoughts on how to remove the PC messages in Xequence?

Thanks Again So Much!!
AJ

Hi,
I am using Loopy Pro as a host, and I have Atom Roll playing a MIDI file, and I'm using Sunrizer as a synth.

It "seems" that as soon as the first MIDI note is sent, it is changing the preset in Sunrizer. Perhaps (someone suggested) that Atom Roll is also sending some type of PC message?
How..... in Atom Roll would I know if it's sending some other MIDI message, other than the MIDI notes? I do have a MIDI messenger or capture thing.

I am using another instance of Atom Roll to send MIDI to Ravensoft piano; and it does not change the presets. Could it be something in Sunrizer???

I start the host (LP) play function to start playing the MIDI notes in Atom Roll. I doubt that would have anything to do with it. It (Sunrizer) doesn't seem to change presets until the first MIDI note occurs.

Thanks
AJ

  • @Vmusic : load a midi monitor AU and make it a destination of your ATOM sequence. You will be able to see what midi is being sent to sunrizer

You said you're playing a midi file. Is this a midi file you made yourself or one you downloaded from somewhere? Many midi files contain a PC message to set a patch from the general midi sound set. This could be resulting in a Program Change message to Sunrizer that's changing the patch.

You're not going to be able to see the PC message in Atom 2. It doesn't show anything other than notes. Some options.

    • Send the atom 2 output to a midi monitor such as streambyter or Show Midi. Look for a Program Change message or any messages other than notes.
    • Send the atom 2 output to streambyter with the following line of code inserted and loaded: CX = XX +b. Send the output of streambyter to Sunrizer. If the behavior stops then Program Change was responsible.
    • Open the file in a more full-featured editor such as Xequence 2, look to see if there are other CC or PC messages there, and delete them as needed. Then export the file to try the modified version.
    • Load Atom 2 and Sunrizer in AUM and set the Sunrizer AUM channel to block Program Change messages. If that works then the 2nd step above is probably your best option.

I made the MIDI file myself, however, I made it in Cubase 12. I exported it and loaded it into my iPad and made a few tweaks there. I do have MIDI monitor, so I will use that and see if anything other than MIDI note messages are being sent.

Xequence 2.... I have never heard of that. I'll have to check it out.

I wonder if Loopy Pro has a function to block certain types of MIDI messages, or to only allow certain types of messages.

    Thanks for the Suggestions!!

Loopy doesn’t do midi event type filtering. You could use mozaic or streambyter however.

It's a really great standalone piano-roll and timeline based midi sequencer that can even record and edit MPE. It doesn't work as an AUv3 though. It does work well alongside Loopy Pro as the Loopy's sequencer can be made to follow X2's timeline.

But if you're not OK with switching between full-screen apps, it's probably not for you.
[edit] I just remembered they both can work together in split screen mode.

  • Imo, while Xequence is a great multitrack sequencer for major midi work, it is overkill with a fair amount of learning curve for simple midi chores.
