  • Incredible. I thought emulation wasnt allowed? Maybe because its a re-implementation, not emulating a processor?

  • I'm currently playing The Dig :) and recommend crt-easymode as a filter. Helps to smooth out those low res graphics. Pretty awesome playing those old adventure games on the iPad.

I Guess you could be right… or is this a slackening of the rules? Or will it be gone off the AppStore soon? I have no idea but I’m mega happy!

Excellent I will do that! Got the dig lined up next!! :)

  • Oh cool, are the games included, or do you have to find those somewhere in your attic and convert them? If Included, are the LucasArts games in there?

Not included but there are websites you can grab the old games for "preservation" purposes!

  • Wow. I can't believe apple have allowed this. Hopefully more emulators are on their way.

  • My first computer was an Amiga 500. Mine had a 1 meg upgrade so there’s basically no point talking to me I’m at such an advanced technological level, you wouldn’t possibly understand

Cannon fodder, sensi soccer, monkey island… I literally don’t care about anything anywhere near as much as I did these things

  • I remember there was an app hiding MAME so you could play all the vintage coin ops but it was removed. I doubt this will stay.

    Bro! Lol

I bought a used c128 for 200 in ‘94. I still didn’t even pretend to dream of an amiga

Btw, just learned eye of beholder was a scumm game. I grew up w pool of rad though

I was best friends with the kid next door and he had a c64. I think I was about 10 maybe or maybe older when we got the Amiga - 90 or something not sure when they were released. Yeah actually I was definitely under 12. It’s funny because my other friend had an Atari and I remember his older brother being into games. Years later played everybody’s gone to the rapture and saw his brother made it, the countryside in that game is exactly like the fields behind our houses

I never played eye of the beholder. I used to love creatures on c64, and the turtles arcade game with crunchy sfx

Got a snes when I was about 14. Snes and Amiga just the best. Speedball 2…

My persona; nostalgia is point n click adventure games more than anything. Love them. Genres felt less fixed

Also the original deus ex when we first got a pc with dial up modem.

There is this app called World of Chess 3D and in there is a NES emulator with a way to get your roms in. You can also sideload RetroArch and turn the iPad into an emulation power house but this goes against Apple's TOS I guess ;)

The only reason I bought the 128 was because my dad had thrown out my 64 when I went to college.

Those days a floppy disk had like 10 arcade games on it. Only the rpg games came on 6 disks. Ultima 3 was 2 disks. Endless swapping and flipping but was somehow worth it. Much better than watching tv.

Never did point n click on c64, the sierra games. These days they are called visual novels, interactive stories, right?

I think theres a big market for that. A lot less technically demanding to make the game and you can use more interesting methods than fps and modern 3d rpg. I think it would be fun to make a game like that. 3d games are too much work and in 2d games its really hard to create something that feels original.

I never played eotb either. Someone i knew with a 486 was playing that all the time in college. It seemed less interesting to me those days.

  • wow.
Just recently though I side-loaded it and wasn't impressed with the usability with the few games I tried. Will give it another go I guess.

yeah seems to work out of the box for me on the cd rom version of bladerunner

  • Interesting. I'm not interested in these games but would dearly love N64 and Dreamcast emulation on my iPad.

You can already. It’s a bit of a faff but emulators run really well on newer devices. You just need a free dev account, which you should have already with your Apple ID and Altstore to handle the sideloading. No jailbreak required:

There’s a guide for it here (scroll down a bit to the altstore section:

😂 I do wonder if it will run LOOM though? My favourite game from the early 90s, I think it also was SCUMM-based.

    Yep it will!

  • There’s a really excellent new game that runs on scummvm called “ the excavation of Hob’s barrow” it’s got a real misty moors folk horror vibe.
