imazing questions, I need help
I've been using google maps street view for work. Foolishly I updated apps yesterday and the new version of google maps does not have street view. I have an older version on my iphone that still has street view, also my wife has an older version of google maps on her ipad that has street view.
Can I use imazing to get my iphone version of google maps onto my ipad, or can I use imazing to get the google maps version from my wife's ipad onto my ipad (we have different apple accounts)?
I appreciate any assistance.

iMazing can only download/archive the current version from the App Store. It can't grab the software from another device as the software in the device is encrypted in a way that makes it only decipherable on the device that downloaded it.
Thank you so much for the reply, you saved me from spending money only to be frustrated. I appreciate it!
It can do this if your wife has a backup of her iPad which includes the .ipa file of the maps app.
The backup is located in an iTunes subfolder (called mobile applications iirc).
That feature is part of the free trial version
(at least it was when I used it 2 years ago)
Confirmed. The free version of iMazing is still enough for this purpose.
I though raw ipa's stopped being part of backups years ago, no? I am also not sire if an ipa will work with a user account besides the one used when it was downloaded.
Nope.
I'm pretty sure that's correct. But, it may be possible if that person also signs in on the other device. My wife still has one app on her iPad that we somehow bought with my Apple ID. It still works, but when we restored to a new device (using Apple/iCloud restore), it prompted me to log in just for that app.
Is that a screenshot of a normal iOS backup to computer?
I backed the apps up from the Manage Apps screen if I remember correctly.
[edit] yes, I just backed up EG Nodes that way.
Oh wow!
I had some apps that had more than one version backed up ... and I was able to restore the older version of the app ?!
I never knew this! So ... in theory you could back up the app before installing an update, then revert to the previous version if needed. I'm flabbergasted.
Downloading from manage apps is different from a backup. When iMazing downloads with Manage Apps that is different from an iOS backup. As far as I know, a regular device backup doesn’t include ipa’s.
Unless the other iPad used imazng manage apps to grab the download , there isn’t a way to get the ipa from a regular device backup.
Will my current iphone version of google maps (that still has street view) load into my ipad? The google map app compatibility list includes ipads and iphones.
So, if I could use my iphone google maps .ipa, I would download the free imazing app onto my computer, then do an iphone backup to the computer from the imazing Manage Apps screen?
Then when I connect my ipad to the computer I could load the google maps .ipa into my ipad somehow?
Thanks everyone.
Err.. Careful here. iMazing does not backup apps from a device; the device doesn't have the ipa, just the installed copy, customized for the device. iMazing downloads the current app version from the App Store. So, you need to plan ahead in order to win, like @wim's big list, ready just in case.
Edit: This was explained previously here.
Is the app missing the street view thumbnail of you hold the device in portrait mode as well?
Wow! Thank you! That was a simple fix, yes it works in portrait mode. I have my iPad in landscape mode on a stand and I never thought to check portrait mode. I really appreciate your help. I appreciate everybody here who took the time to help me today. Cheers.
So it would be sensible to use iMazing to download to your computer every app you buy straight after you buy it (i.e before the next version comes out)...?
Then, if the new updated version is not to your liking, you can "go back a version" by copying it from your computer?
That‘s how I read on their site.
It does NOT work for the OS, though. Didn‘t restore restore an image 5.1.3 to iPhone 3gs, which has 5.1.6 as it‘s latest release.
Which ones?
The iMazing feature for backing up apps requires doing it while it is still available in the App Store. It is downloading from the App Store not extracting the app from an iPad or iPad backup.
Yes and in the past actually can download depreciated apps such a Z3ta but I haven’t checked in a while.
Yes. That is a super handy feature.
It downloads whatever is the latest version on Apple’s server, or the last version useable on that device, when you backup, so it’s always a good idea to regularly take a snapshot if you don’t have space constraints.
I've been in a similar situation before. You can definitely use iMazing 3 to help with this. It's the best iOS management tool, in my experience.
Here's what you can do:
Backup the version of Google Maps with Street View from your iPhone using iMazing.
Then, you can restore that specific app backup to your iPad.
If your wife’s iPad has a different Apple ID, it might complicate things a bit. But this IOS can still help you transfer the app. I once transferred an older version of an app from my iPhone to my wife’s iPad, and it worked perfectly.
