JWM - The Great Heron EP (My final EP on the Op1f for a while)

As said, this will be my final EP on the OP-1 Field for a while. I want to get back into iOS music production. :)

The culmination of a 2-3 weeks' worth of work on the OP-1 Field, this is "The Great Heron EP"! Six tracks (well, five tracks and an intro). I tried some different production techniques on this one. Namely, instead of recording vocals directly on the OP-1 Field, my friend Malleous provided vocals for the Boombap track, and I recorded vocals for the Pop track in Cubasis 3 and tuned them.

Fun fact - my singing voice sucks as I haven't practiced singing in such a long time. So instead, I did "voice acting" on the Pop song to bring in the emotion to the vocal performance, and I used Waves Tune RT as an effect rather than a corrective measure.

As always, more production notes in the Soundcloud description. Cheers and enjoy.

  • Always amazing how fast you work and the production quality having just that little box with a few buttons and knobs :-). Liked it all, and especially the pop song at the end. I'm so confused now whether people want 'constructive criticism' or not, but I couldn't make my mind up whether it was a kind of plaintive plea kind of like 6lack in the Pink Phantom or something more energetic (Asian pop for example) which I know you excel at too. Anyway, top notch stuff.

Thank you so much mate. :) When talking about "plaintive plea vs energetic", do you simply mean the Pop song, or the EP as a whole? (I'd say the Pop song is a combination of the two, an energetic plaintive plea as it were. 😂 )

  • That EP was a journey

  • Congrats on the ep! Your very talented jwm

  • That’s fun, Jim. Who does the first rap, you, as well, I assume. I really liked the last one. It was very real.
I question whether the OP inspired you or you inspired it. Are you going to keep it? Could you have done all this equally well on an iPad (I think that’s rhetorical) i’m not trying to dump on the OP. It obviously is a very capable tool. Just wondering your thoughts and bouncing off your saying you’ll put it away for now.

Very well done, mate, as always, and good to hear your voice.

  • @MrSmileZ Thanks mate! It was a journey to make.

@jdp000 Thank you so much mate. 🙇‍♂️ Much appreciated.

@LinearLineman The rapper is my mate Malleous who is one helluva rapper. I rap more like Dr. Seuss than Dr. Dre, so I had to get a real rapper on the beat. 😂 I believe the Op-1f and I inspired each other. Damn right I'm keeping it. What a marvelous device! I couldn't do on iOS what I can do in the Op-1 Field and vice versa. And I'm glad you dig my voice. There'll be more of that where that came from.

  • Very varied but great production throughout as we’ve come to expect.
Favourites were The Heron and San Juanito Irlandes… I don’t really do vocals or those new fangled genres 😊

That's fair mate. :) We all have varied tastes in music, which makes life more interesting for sure.
