iConnectivity Audio 2+ with newer iPad Pro

Dear Audiobus Community,
I'm interested in buying a used iConnectivity Audio 2+ audio interface to use with my iPad Pro M2. Do you know if it can power up the newer iPads Pro or should I go with the newer usb-C Audio 4c? Thank you!

    Go with the USB-c version.
The Audio 2+ needed a special USB/lightning cable (btw not included), which can only power a Lightning device.

Oh thanks! So if I use a USB-A/USB-C cable (for Audio 2+) it will not charge the iPad properly comparing to a USB-C/USB-C connection (Audio 4c)?

  • The Audio2/4+ couldn‘t even charge an iPad with a regular USB cable.
(that special lightning cable, a $50 investment btw, has a small „charging section“ which gets really hot when active, and has been a source of trouble occasionally)

You might succeed with a powered USB-c hub between Audio2+ and iPad, but I have no experience with that. Keep in mind not all hubs are created equal.
(the hub would need a USB-a input and USB-c output for the iPad)

This works with, for instance, the Kingston Nucleum, and should work with others. I have done it with the iConnectAudio4+ and a USB-C iPad

A USB-A/USB-C cable will not charge a USB-C iPad. USB-C requires a device and cable that support Power Delivery. This is a USB-C protocol that uses some of the many other leads in the USB-C connection. The 4 wires of the traditional USB connection cannot do this. You will only get charging power from a device, like a hub/dock, that explicitly claims Power Delivery capability.

Also, I just checked the iConnectivity Audio 4c, and it only supplies 15 W charging power. This is less than your Apple charger, and might not even be enough to prevent the battery running down while using the iPad.
