Export individual audio tracks bitrate problem in Logic Pro

While I can export a mixdown of a 24/48 project in full 24/48 WAV or AIFF, selecting individual audio track export will ONLY result in 16 bit files, no matter what settings one provides for the export. This is SO incredibly frustrating - especially when one wishes to deliver track stems on a professional project to another mixing engineer! Has anyone else encountered this?

  • Tedious temporary fix if you absolutely need it: solo each track, export full mixdown with the right bitrate, repeat.

  • Yes, I‘ve noticed it once (years ago) and don‘t remember the exact context.
    So I used the supposedly 24bit stems... and didn‘t notice any difference at all. o:)
    It really isn‘t relevant because the 16bit files cover the full range from -96 to 0dB/s.

    These files are valid 16bit data, derived from (at least) 32bit mix engines, not converted by 16bit input stages that (in real life) may deliver 12bit data or worse.
    Any true „pro“ will know this. :mrgreen:

    It‘s a different story with certain types of „classical“ recordings, when a large number of instruments is captured with expensive recording gear ($5k per channel and up).
    But it definitely doesn‘t apply to synth sounds or contemporary groove or ambience stuff.

    Fair enough, but if Logic Pro incorporates the selectable option for exporting at 24 bit, then that should be what is delivered! It feels like Apple thought of a thing then couldn't be bothered to make it work. The recording studio mixing this particular song require 24/48 files for the project, so I need to be able to deliver those.

  • Absolutely... if that feature is included, it should be delivered. >:)
    To save you from extra work, just batch convert all files to 24bit.
    Unless they do really bizarre dynamics in mixdown, there won‘t be any loss, imho.
