Yes, add a send midi action to the clip's play follow action.
I am looking for information if it is possible to send a MIDI CC message to AUv3 periodically (every x bars) in Loopy Pro. I would like to use this feature for PlayBeat and its temporary randomizer in the future.
Would your "add send midi action to play follow clip action" be a solution for me, @espiegel123?
Unfortunately the On Play follow action only fires when the clip first starts playing, not each time it loops. So that gets a bit tricky.
I just use any convenient sequencer such as Atom 2, Step Bud, Drambo, or whatever instead.
As @wim said an auv3 midi sequencer (or mozaic) are simple ways to do this. You can set up stepped dials and radio button groups to perform repeated actions, too. Basically set a step to be off. Set the next step to send the midi cc (probably set to be quantized to the bar) followed by an action to advance the dial after a delay of a beat or so. The next step would after a delay (or maybe quantized to the bar) return to the previous step. You would also need to set up a button or gesture to reset the dial to off.
The dial would be something like this
I understand your description, looks promising. Thank you @espiegel!
Here’s a 4 bar dial setup that sends a note on each bar. Each scroll action is set to nudge 1, and the last step is set to wrap, so no reset needed. There’s a delay of 1 bar on each nudge action.
There’s a project follow action on Clock Start to select position 1, and a Cancel Pending Actions on clock stop to stop the dial. You could do this other ways.
A simple sequencer is a better solution to me, but this works.
Bookmarked, thank you @wim
Btw, my reason for having the off and end states is so that you can stop and start it i
while the clock is running.
"Yes, add a send midi action to the clip's play follow action."
I can do this in the sequencer? How do I access follow actions in the sequencer? When I try to create follow actions in the sequencer it bounces me to the doughnut edit screen. I dont know what follow actions in the doughnut edit screen actually work in the sequencer. The only ones that I want don't work (solo and unsolo inputs). Are there some that do work, if so is there a list?
A clip's play follow actions will be triggered in a sequencer sequence. As far as I know, all follow actions work when triggered whether in the sequencer or not. Can you post an example where the actions don't work?
I tested that the send midi action works before i suggested it. Keep in mind that Play only gets triggered when a clip goes from not playing to playing as wim mentioned.
I assigned follow action "solo input 1" to the first doughnut, then "solo input 2"to the second doughnut and so on. when I tap on the first doughnut to record it acts as expected (solos the input during recording). when I start the sequence with the tracks armed the inputs are not soloing as the clips are recording. Does that make sense?
Nevermind I found the problem. I wasn't actually recording, just playing through the empty clips. Sorry!
I am sorry, I am not understanding. What follow action did you assign the action to? When you used it in the sequencer, did you arm the track for recording? I just tried "solo audio source" in a Begin Recording action for an armed sequencer track and it worked.
Can you put together and post a simple project that demonstrates the problem you had?
Did you try my suggested solution to your initial question (send midi message as a play follow action)?
Here is the setup of the action for the solo input during recording test i did.
The follow action setup
The clip armed for sequenced recording
The state just after recording started
btw, master was muted by me as i couldn't make noise lest i wake up the family
