Sultans of Swing / Dire Straits+ Rick Beato
I found some YouTubers reacting to this live performance. lol, one had never heard it, didn’t know the band, but was floored. It’s been a while since I heard it. Just as powerful as ever…
And Beato…

That is one of those records that I can recall where I was and what I was doing the first time I heard it.
Back when you’d discover new music from the radio.
So many cool guitar licks in this song. Great stuff!
Wow. I had no idea they were so good live. I don’t know his name, but in that moment he was the greatest drummer who ever lived.
How he does that tremolo picking at the end without a pick is pretty incredible. Like if he ever broke a nail the gig would have to be cancelled. 😲
Great use of dynamics here. Master class really.
There is a live gig somewhere, that he stops and has to find clippers to continue. I can't recall what it is. Might even be just the audio in a live version.
Terry Williams. Exceptionally hard hitting and energetic drummer 🙀 here’s a nice little documentary about him from back when TV had a slower pace:
thanks, much appreciated
It’s really interesting to circle back to Dire Straits after hearing their influence on stuff like Tuareg music in North Africa. Listening with new ears.
