  • Amazing! :) Thanks for sharing.

  • This is huge news (for me anyway). It’s been a favorite effect of mine for years. I wonder if it’s an update or a new app? Since many of us bought the app/IAP.

  • I never brought the 3rd plate
    But love the app
Fingers crossed I will get the iap this time

  • I decided middle of last year. Why buy more effects when I’m not even completing tracks
    Effects can be added later
But will make an exception for this though

  • I'll never buy from these guys again after they unceremoniously abandoned their app. If this "fixes" what customers already bought from them for free, then of course I'll update. But they get no more of my money.

  • I purchased the IAP way back, hopefully that still functions. If not I will not invest in it anymore.

  • The Eagle has farted.

I'm not sure they left behind a reputation that deserves a fanfare on return.

Personally, I think if they intend to return, it should come with an explanation regarding why they left, how they feel it was okay to do that to customers and what customers have in terms of assurance that this is more than a flyby.

I have got to know this developer a little and really respect their work. They definitely got off on the wrong foot on iOS but if they decide to bring their full suite of Pulsar Modular plugins to the platform then that can only be a very good thing for the scene.

These plugins are best in class IMO and the effort that goes into creating and fine tuning them is kind of cool. They also have a small group of producers, mixers, and mastering engineers working with them testing and tweaking and I think it shows in the end product. For example, there’s honestly nothing like the P11 Abyss compressor on iOS. And yes they call their plugins Masterpieces so there’s a bit of hype involved too 😀

  • I checked with the dev. The current app still exists, as far as the Appstore is concerned, but was marked 'not available', hence does not appear in Appstore searches. Now the devs are simply updating the old app, and its status will be switched back to 'available'. So there will be nothing complicated in all of this and definitely no need for ppl who purchased the IAP previously to repurchase it.

  • Anyone remember what the price was like for that? Their desktop stuff is priced crazy high so I’m wondering what it is for iOS. I saw they’re porting at least one other plug-in and would enjoy the chance to use some of them

  • I believe 9.99 US for the IAP.

    I checked. You're right. $9.99.

  • I know it wasn’t ideal for it to disappear, and the communication left a lot to be desired (it wasn’t a great way to do business), but for those of us who got it while it was around but didn’t put money on it, the only ongoing problem was the inability to buy the IAP. And for those of us who didn’t grab it, we lost our chance.

For those of us who did buy it, we got a really nice big plate reverb on top of a fully functional app that didn’t seem to have any technical issues right up to the present moment. Is abandonware cause for condemnation, because I use plenty of abandoned IAA apps, and while it would be nice if those devs hadn’t abandoned them and had a glorious and somehow profitable roadmap to AUv3, they don’t owe me anything. I know it’s not the same, but it really feels like it’s on the same continuum.

It’s fine. It’s coming back? Cool. 🤷🏻 The app’s history would give me pause before plonking down more money on another app that might also disappear, sure, but the thread from last year about it being a literal scam puzzled me greatly. There’s been a lot worse.

Yeh, that thread was dramatic. Kinda hoping that person shows up here to provide some fresh entertainment. 😉

So, if I have this straight … the app still works and it never went totally away for those who purchased it, but did stop being offered for new sales? Is that correct?

If so, then I’m not sure why all the bad blood. Why would people want the developer to take on new customers while they didn’t feel they’d be able to support them properly? At least the developer kept paying their yearly developer account fees to keep the app available for existing customers if needed. That’s an expense with no replacement revenue to offset it.

Or, is the app otherwise buggy in some way?

  • It works fine for me still on iOS 16.6.1. I never bought the IAP because I bought the desktop version instead. I'm sure I paid a good sale price for - i would never have paid full price for it (it's currenly on sale at $112, down from $140) - but I don't recall now.

It sounds really great and I'm pleased to have it. No bad feeling from me but then they didn't withdraw the desktop version so maybe I'm biased. I do remember being a little surprised that they did the work to port it without doing any profit modelling but at least they were honest about their reasons for ceasing iOS development.

I wonder what made them come back?

The app has no bugs that I noticed last time I used it, which was about a month ago. It doesn’t open standalone for me, but the AUv3 is working, I just rechecked briefly. I agree that everything wasn’t handled as well as it could have been when they left the platform, but, as you say Wim, it could have been handled worse, and it seems that now the dev is trying to put things right. If I remember correctly, they maybe lost the person they had hired to work on the iOS version of the app? Then, the reality check of how little they were earning from IAP sales meant they couldn’t afford to hire someone else. Now, presumably, they are coming back with a better marketing and pricing strategy, probably ready to release more apps which would make it worth their while to hire someone specifically to work on iOS? The dev has mentioned that he will come over here to the AB Forum when the time is right and explain things directly.

Around the time it was withdrawn some people started to have problems where it would load with a blackscreen and didn't work and some people said that they had purchased the IAP but could not restore it.

  • It looks like, if you did buy the IAP, deleted the app and reinstalled it (or installed it on a different device), you can’t restore the IAP in its current state, which is a bit worse than removing it from sale to new customers.

  • Thanks @espiegel123 and @Grandbear - that’s good background info.

  • I think I might be in a minority of one, but I actually thought the plate reverb was a bit meh 🫤

I deleted the app. I’ll give it another go once it reappears on the App Store.

  • They didn’t go about it the best way for sure with their introduction but I’ll gladly welcome a return if they have all the kinks worked out now. They have some really great plugins I’ve demoed that I would love to see ported to iOS

  • A warning to all would be purchasers/customers of Pulsar Modular

I paid 9.99 for the IAP for Lunar Lander by Pulsar Modular. Wrote to them in May ‘22 to advise that the app was failing to load on my 5th Gen iPad. When I asked what they were going to do about it they said they’d pulled out of the iOS market…but might be back in the winter.

They took my money, left me with an app that didn’t work and here we are 20 months later - maybe now they’ll do the honourable thing and release a fix that they should have implemented a year and a half ago.

I won’t be giving Pulsar Modular a single cent ever again and will never trust them. They are unprofessional and untrustworthy. Steer well clear.

  • @138389 why post the same message twice?

Because that’s how forums work. This is a separate thread. We can’t predict which thread future visitors will arrive at, but I think my experience of Pulsar Modular and Lunar Lander is important to be represented. People can then make up their own minds.

  • Cross linking for future visitors (and to appease the self appointed forum police 🤣😆)

  • i have lunar lander on mac osx and would buy it immediately for ios.
somehow i missed it when it was available.
don't get the fuss about the developer.
just don't buy it, if you don't want to.

  • edited January 28

It’s the Appstore which is the problem, in app purchases should be unlocked even if the developers decide to disappear.
It shouldn't be necessary to wait for alternate stores to be allowed to put pressure on Apple to fix their own store for consumers.

  • Fuss? No fuss from me, just facts. It was available, looked and sounded great, had an optional 9.99 IAP, then broke. 20 months on they still haven’t fixed it. It’s alleged they are, and it is, coming back to iOS. You should definitely pick up a copy 😆
