need a very basic sampler app

Need a very basic AUV3 sampler app which I can trigger a 5 second audio file, using a cc button on my NanoKontrol 2. I will not be doing any music creation, just playing selected files. Suggestions?

  • Koala Sampler. Just the basic app for your needs, no need for the IAP’s.

If you have aum already you can do it in that I think

  • Drambo of course has a sample player… 4Pockets Chameleon got an update and is probably an option but CC activation might be an issue.

What DAW is required for your workflow… that’s as important to a solution as the sampler. Unless you really want a standalone which would push me back to actually learning Drambo or testing AudioLayer which is up to the 5 second option but again… CC’s? You can’t send a note?

  • I have Chameleon, Neon Editor and Koala. More familiar with Chameleon and was able to get it to work

  • Incidentally, anyone know if there are any MIDI-controllable sound boards?

Neon and Koala are probably the 2 best bets so you should be all set.

    Do you mean mixers?

    +1 for Koala

@McD I'd argue Drambo is anything but a simple basic sampler. 😉 A terrific app nevertheless.

No. A sound board (used in radio and live productions) is used to trigger pre-recorded sounds (like sound effects, station ID's, etc.). It's like a standalone "clip launcher", I suppose.

Koala Sampler could act as one I'd wager. 🤷‍♂️ Just set your sounds to one shots.

But that's not its main function. I've seen soundboard apps on the App Store previously. But I don't think any of them are MIDI controllable.

True. Then again, if you need to be able to cut one sound off with another and vice versa, Koala has choke groups. It's definitely MIDI controllable. And it can be used as an AUv3. :)

  • Don't forget the Flip sampler. For quick sampling to pads and editing start and end points (which you'll usually want to have), I prefer it over Koala because everything is on the same page.

What isn't on the same page for what you're describing in Koala?

  • Koala is the real answer

41.5 if we're ONLY talking about sampling. The other 0.5 for the rest of "everything"

  • I couldn't find a sampler app that would map to my Nanokontrol- they all appear to only map to Key#. Which worked out just fine- I used the highest note on my keyboard controller which doesn't interfere with playing

Loopy pro can map to anything. For the others a smoke streambyter or mozaic screiof or midi messenger or others could translate the cc’s the nanokintrik sends to the notes for the sampler.

On a side note here, it was fascinating to find out there’s actually some logic or a philosophy behind that choice of number.
