iPad Internal Audio Routing?

Hi,
Is there an "internal audio routing" in the iPad that you can "manage". EXAMPLE: I have an iPad app call Strum Machine. It's a pure stand alone app. You can type in chords and it strums a guitar playing the chords and and adds in bass notes as well.

Since..... it's purely stand alone (not IAP or AUV3 or OAF)..... is there an "internal router" app where I can direct the output of Strum Machine to AUM or Loopy Pro???

I could..... play the song I want on the Strum Machine app, and use the iPad mic to record it..... uhhh... I would love to control the iPad's internal audio and route the audio output of one app to (the input of) another.

Thanks!!
AJ

No. There is no way to route between apps if they don't implement IAA.
The only way to do that is with an audio interface that has loopback capability.

  • One workaround, but a clunky one, is to screen record the app that lacks connectivity, and strip out the audio. It’s not a great solution, though.

  • As Wim said, no AUv3 and IAA is problamatic…

The only way easy way to rip audio out from Strum Machine is to do an screen recording with your iPad or iPhone.
Then you take this videofile and upload it to this site for extracting audio from the videostream:
    https://audio-extractor.net/

Then you have an .wav or .flac or .mp3 - it can give you several other audio format…

You can use Koala to strip out the audio rather than use a web site.

  • What's funny is that NO ONE mentions that THAT is the EXACT reason why this forum exists 😂 @Vmusic Audiobus was the first app that allowed audio routing between apps long before IAA and AUv3 existed, but each app has to explicitly add support for it.

A loopback interface if it’s a purely standalone app. See this thread.

But for future reference, if you’re trying to bridge IAA instruments to an AU host that doesn’t support them, or routing non-AU instruments that exist solely within an AU host (e.g. Logic, GarageBand and NS2 [?] instruments) to another AU host: in addition to a hardware solution, you can use KQ Voice (with either AUM, Loopy Pro or AudioBus as a go-between to support the IAA scenario), as described in this thread.

Isn’t that yet another spending for his purpose?

And, there’s probably hundreds of other apps and sites that can do just this.

Certainly. But they might have Koala already, and maybe they’d prefer an offline solution. It’s just a suggestion.

By the way - Koala Sampler is a really awesome app - so, no complains from me against KS…

  • WOW, WOW, WOW...... thank you for the history lesson. I had no idea AudioBus was the first interconnector app. I can do the screen recording thing. I reached out the dev of the Strum Machine app and asked for AUV3 compatibility..... youda thought I ask for his firstborn kid or something.... .

It could well be that it would be an undertaking that would be time-consuming and not pay for itself.

Implementing the Audiobus SDK is far less of an undertaking, and would allow his app to work in other IAA hosts such as Cubasis and AUM in addition to Audiobus without the drastic amount of work involved in making an app into an AUv3 plugin. The developer may not be interested in even that, but it would stand a better chance.

    https://developer.audiob.us/doc/index.html

(That said, IAA is deprecated technology, so there would be only limited utility for the developer to do even that.)

But this guy has an app that is subscription, and cost 5 bucks a month - almost the same price as Logic Pro for iPad…

I could understand if he had an traditional one time fee around 10-15 bucks.

You can also create a Shortcut opening a Photos file and chose "audio only" in the encode media step at the end.

Edit: This should work on the iPad as well:

Oh, that’s a really useful tip! Thank you!

You're welcome. I hope it gets the ability to separate stems one day too. Maybe that's already possible by a third party apps which can add their own Shortcut steps.
