A totally No Input Mixer jam: Winterkeeper
Officially, the facility known as Project Winterkeeper, approximately 5 miles east of Attu Station, Alaska, is a seed bank, a storehouse of plant germ lines hoarded against apocalypse. Following an unspecified incident in August 2010, however, the nearby coast guard station was evacuated, and both facility and island abandoned. Access to the island is tightly restricted, and the (very few) who do visit - primarily researchers of one sort or another, affiliated with various of the US ‘alphabet agencies’ - are advised not to stay overnight. The given reason for this curfew is ‘an infestation of unusually large rats.’
Unofficially, rumours persist that the large dome, censored from public maps and satellite imagery, still houses a craft - or possibly a being - of unknown origin.
Thanks to @sevenape for those marvelous patches, and for reminding me what a great app No Input Mixer is. This whole track uses only No Input Mixer, (four instances), along with a couple of the Moog FX (Phaser and Filter), and the usual reverbs. No other instruments were involved. I used several channels from a single instance of mLFO to live modulate parameters (I’m coming round to mLFO over my usual MIDILFOs, it is way more flexible), while I rode the volume faders manually in a live mix, running the live instances of the app in AUM alongside three varispeeded Tape Player loops.

It has a “journey into the unknown” vibe. Dark and a bit foreboding but not too creepy. Could be a soundtrack for Myst - started playing it again after about 25 years.
I like it!
It's @sevenape who is the creator (I also added some further down the thread).
Sounds good, you've been missed (almost got me worried😳)
@Pxlhg : Whoops! Thanks for pointing that out, I’ve fixed it. Apologies, @sevenape and @HotStrange both. And I’ll have to check your patches out too, pxlhg. Thank you! Yes, I probably won’t be here as much for a while for - reasons - but it’s nice to have been missed.
@rheslip : Ah, yes, Myst. Great game back in the day. I loved the chill vibe of it. I don’t think the steampunk gems that are the Room series on IOS could have existed without it. Glad you liked the piece. I see where you are coming from. I was just pleased to sculpt something semi-coherent from the chaos, I followed where the noises wanted to take me, and ended up… here.
Ha no worries!! Glad you got some use out of them!! Sounds really great!
Now that’s dark ambient. Nice.
The NoInput app sounds so good by itself even without fx. Maybe even better without fx, which is unusual. My only problem with it is that I like to play in tune with a consistent overtone series, and I can never get that out of this app unless I tune one patch and then never change anything at all--but it almost demands to be played with.
I have found it so hard to coax consistently good sounds out of No input Mixer, so I’m seriously very impressed that this has come out so well.
It’s appropriately harsh and eerie like an Alaskan winter.
Love it!
Sounds excellent, 'good to have you back' Svetlovska! Looking forward also to checking out @Pxlhg's track and definitely need to grab those @sevenape presets! No Input Mixer is simply fantastic. I think I might have to have a play with it right away!
It's that kind of app. I can barely keep my hands off it... ooer
Sounds great. A trip to Night Country!
Thanks to all for the water of your attention in the desert of my existence! Glad that you liked it, and it is touching to have been missed. And, @Moderndaycompiler : ‘Night Country’ ? - I’m snagging that for a future title. Very cool
I can’t take any credit here. Night Country is a reference to the current season of True Detective (and it’s really good).
Your track would fit perfectly in this season’s storyline. Cheers 🥂
I love it. It sounds like something is truly alive within that cavern. Not sure what the hell it is though, maybe someone should check it out.
Ambient is all about texture, which this has in spades, but the best ambient should also take you somewhere, and maybe even tell a story, and this track does all of that.
This is a fantastic piece, the atmosphere grabs you and the details reel you in. Darkest, scariest seed bank ever! Speaking of which, I found the inspiration story intriguing - brings to mind Lovecraft’s The Rats in the Walls 🐀
Nice work @Svetlovska
Sort of sucks you in and before you know it 10 minutes have gone past…
Nice to have a new post from you 👍
