Ep-133 Midi into duet apogee usb midi. What cable?

Hello I have the duet apogee the iPad/ Mac version. It has a usb midi port on back that I have free’d up. I received the ko 2(after two broken faders ofc :) ) and was wondering what cable do I need to get connect ep-133 to the duet usb midi port? I’m looking and I don’t see a 3.5 mm to usb midi.

The midi port on the ep-133 is a 3.5mm size port and the apogee duet port is a usb midi.

Thanks in advance!

  • I expect you'll need a 3.5 mm to 5-pin adapter, then a 5-pin to USB converter.

Do you have any links to make sure I’m looking at the right product. Can’t find the 5 pin to usb on Amazon

  • There must be a kazillion USB MIDI adapter cables out there. Here’s one: https://www.amazon.com/FORE-Interface-Converter-Adapter-Laptop/dp/B0719V8MX1/ref=sr_1_6?crid=3FYZFIZMUORKU&keywords=midi+usb+adapter&qid=1707273024&sprefix=midi+usb+adpat,aps,313&sr=8-6

Unless you get some kind of MIDI HUB that includes a USB port, these solutions often come as a split cable with two 5-pin connectors: one for IN and one for OUT (because 5-pin MIDI isn’t bidirectional).

Meanwhile, make sure you get the right 3.5mm to 5-pin MIDI adapter — there are two standards, and I believe TE products use the Type A version.

  • Okay I added the fore to my cart. Which is a good 3.5 mm to 5 pin on Amazon? Because some I see are saying male 5 pin and I don’t know male or female.

It really depends on what your final setup is going to be. Everyone has different needs. But if you’re just plugging your KO2 to your Apogee, end of story, then you need something that’ll plug into the 5-pin connectors in the USB MIDI cable in your cart, which like most MIDI cables is male (because the devices, like most electronic devices, usually have female ports, simply because you don’t want male bits pointing out of your surface).

So if you’re intending to sequence your KO2 from your other device and vice versa, you’ll need two Type A TRS MIDI adapters, where the TRS connectors are male and the 5-pin connectors are female.
