How can I Connect Buttersynth to Reaper

I have a Presonus 26c so I got a USBC to midi cable thinking I could send the audio signal from the ipad to the interface and then set the interface as my input a reaper track but the interface is not getting a signal from the ipad. Buttersynth still sends audio to the ipad speakers when connected. Thanks ahead for any advice or help.

Hi. This is not entirely clear. I guess the Presonus interface is connected to your PC, running Reaper. The USB-C to MIDI interface lets you send MIDI from Reaper to the iPad to play notes on Buttersynth. How are you sending the iPad audio back to Reaper? Headphone jack to Presonus audio input?

What you wrote sounds like you'd like iPad audio to be sent over the MIDI interface, but that's simply not possible. MIDI can only send control data (notes, parameters) to synths; it does not transmit audio.

  • Ok. I understand what you are saying. So I need to completely bypass the audio interface and get buttersynth connected directly to my daw (Reaper). But I can't figure it out so far. My ipad is an ipad mini and has no headphone jack. The only external connection is the usbc port. And I want to send the audio from Buttersynth not the MIDI data.

  • Just to be clear: Are you running Reaper on a PC or on a Mac?

Then you can just use iDAM.

  • Thanks, I'll look it up. I really appreciate it. Been at it for hours...

idam is easy once you find the Audio Midi Setup program on the Mac. On my MacBook it was under Utilities in the LaunchPad.

  • Yep. Got that part figured out! Now I'm getting Ipad/Buttersynth into my DAW (Reaper) but I have to set the audio device in Reaper to "Ipad". But then I don't have a way to hear the audio out of Reaper. Sorry....Just seems to be such a puzzle.

You should totally be able to hear the audio. Do you have monitoring enabled on the Reaper track? Many DAWs default to monitoring off. Is the track armed?

Did you check where the audio output is directed on the Mac? Probably should be set to Internal Speakers, Headphone Output, or Aggregate device. If Aggregate device then you need to check what output is set to in Aggregate Device in Audio Midi Setup.

Sorry, I don't have Reaper on the Mac or I'd offer more troubleshooting.
