Here’s an introduction:
Does anybody know if these effects be loaded individually like the desktop version?
Beautiful UI, bit pricey innit?
Looks beautiful but I already have IK Mixbox. Everything this does and then some.
Too expensive! (for me anyhow)
Nice UI, I'm tempted...
iPad-only. So not even worth it for me.
Question is, on the desktop there are two versions. Xvox and Xvox Pro. They've released the non-pro verison for iPad, but do they have any plans to release the Pro?
Step by Step IPadOS tutorial:
Same
Anyone actually buy it? Would love to hear some impressions.
Price, crazy. Functions, severely limited. Interest, extremely low.
Especially the de-esser. How the hell am I going to get effective de-essing with one knob? Goes for the comp too. The eq is about the only thing that looks useful to me personally. Given the desktop pro version is 399 retail, 39 is not to bad, still crazy though. For 39 bucks I think I can get a more versatile set of plugins that would suit my way of working better. If you want simplicity, or something to get close quickly, this might be good.
Sleek UI and seems like it sounds good but I don’t really do vocals enough to justify $40. And the rare times I do vocals I’m usually processing them into weirdness lol.
That said it’s definitely expensive for iOS standards but we’ve had it good for a long time and I’m sure devs will start charging more when they port their plugins now. It was always gonna end up that way as iOS music making grows and matures. It’s just a matter of the value it adds to your setup for the price. For some this probably isn’t expensive because they’d use it all the time.
On first glance, I thought it's a BabyAudio designed app. Regarding price, I agree, it’s unrealistic for the App Store locked product.
Definitely looks like a baby audio app haha. I don’t do vocals enough to justify this one. And I’m barely buying apps these days as it is.
I took the plunge to try it on a mix which I have been struggling with.
The EQ is very good, and there is a subtle but still noticeable difference between each type (Vintage, Modern etc).
One complaint I have is that I wish you could either disable the FET, or that there were some compression options without it, because it's too aggressive and grabs the consonants too hard. So I'm running the Mixbox LA2 before Xvox and only dialing in a tiny bit of the Xvox compressor.
The reverbs are very nice, despite the lack of control over decay times etc... My guess is that they are convolution captures of specific units.
The plugin is definitely capable of creating great-sounding vocals, and taming harshness or resonances etc... The compression is the only flaw, it could really do with some FET-less options.
Nothing Mixbox+complete FabFilter package can't do IMO... I think I'll pass, especially for this price tag.
But isn’t your said ‘package’ a total cost of $199.99? For a new user or someone who doesn’t own those, this could work. I mean it’s the same price as FabFilter Pro-L2 if we’re talking price.
You're completely right, it is good you pointed this out! For someone just starting and looking for a one stop solution for vocals, this could be a great option. I was only talking from my own perspective !
I see adverts for the desktop versh all the time and always thought it looked and sounded good. Bit like knock for vocals.
Like others, I don’t do much with vocals, but will probably grab this if it ever goes on sale.
I agree, but I also kinda like Xvox on first impressions. Sometimes there is a harshness in my vocals that I struggle to get rid of with my other plugins, and this seemed to do the trick when I tried it, the results were smoother than my normal vocal chain (which is actually super-simple, I normally just use Mixbox LA-2 --> FF Pro Q3, and DDMF MagicVerb on an AUX).
this looks like a winner to me, at least until logic gets a “vocal assistant”
Wasn’t AuroraDSP working on something similar to this for iOS? Is this that app under a different name? Anyone know?
This is how plugin makers should be promoting their products IMO.
Also for live vocals, I'm this should be a better option in terms of latency and system efficiency rather than using multiple plugins. Pro-L2 especially introduces latency by default. According to the videos, Xvox is zero latency.
Might be tempted to get it if it gets a significant sale at some point for the all in one solution for those big projects where CPU is an issue and also for the beautiful and neat UI. But at the current price tag... Now if some generous souls on this forum were ready to lend me a few bucks ... 🤣🤣🤣🤣
BTW, when looking for L2A2 emulation do you always go to Mixbox? The Opto in Logic sounds pretty close to my ears.
I prefer the Mixbox LA2 to the one in Logic, it’s smoother sounding in my testing.
Which makes sense since the original LA2 doesn’t have ratio or attack and release controls like the one in Logic has, so in order for it to sound authentic you would need to use the same settings as the original hardware. And I believe the original had quite complex release times that change over time.
I don’t really know if IK Multimedia did a totally faithful emulation, but originally I was inclined to use the one in Logic - until I heard the results, at which point I decided to go back to using Mixbox.
anyone have any experience using live vocals through this instead of post processing? any glitchy/clippy issues?
Is this intro price? Anyone is happy with this plugin?
I don't know about the price but I bought the plugin and I love it. It's very easy to quickly dial in a nice vocal chain.
