  • No, it is not... o:)
(unless you‘re a person still in love with splicing tape, that reel-to-reel stuff)
Imh ears it has quite some path to go to start sounding amazing.

ps: I‘d rather not have mentioned this at all, but that was simply too much praise in the video.
Listen closely... the IR‘s amplitude curve is (constantly) modulating the sound in a rather disturbing way. No smooth transitions... :o

Hmmm, then again for more David Lynch styled Ambient that could be just the jarring reverb we need. 😉

  • So… what other reverb for ambient should I look into?

Quantum Delay by GSDSP (Magic Delay from them is also pretty cool) // Other Dessert Cities from AudioDamage // are two pretty good options

We are recommending delay effect apps in lieu of reverbs?

Yes, I do understand that both are time based effects and that there are some effect apps that muddy the water and do both, like Ponolyth Cascade.

I’d say FAC Alteza and Rymdigare are another couple great options “for Ambient” effects.

You are so right, I was getting some hindsight after posting but couldn't bother to correct but here's a few others then: Eventide Blackhole and Igor's SpaceFields 😃

Cheers mate. :) Two David Lynch diehards here besides our good friend @Svetlovska

  • Some of those suggested apps look quite yummy.
    Thanks for the tips!

I’m rewatching Twin Peaks right now. Almost done with season 2. Was able to catch a couple of David lynch movies in theaters this month.

First time with one of Igor’s apps? lol

  • You know... there‘s always a 1st time...
Kidding aside: the use of an audio snippet (as an IR) for convolution is nothing new.
(Bias Peak could do it 25 years ago in MacOS 9)
The idea/approach of the app is cool, though, but imh ears just doesn‘t nail it in it‘s current state.
I‘d rather prefer the manual way of transitions with different reverb characters, but that‘s just a matter of taste ;)

  • Would like to hear @Telefunky 's favorite reverb apps for ambient music. I like the way this app sounds, and have no regrets about buying it, but I like it best as an audio bed used someone sparingly for long sustaining notes. After the demo in the video, I could see why someone might not want to play Gigi Masan style guitar or a sax or something through it.

Don’t forget the Reverb with Infinite Sustain (i.e. Freeze) as an option… “Eos 2”. It’s massive and can be Infinite… you’ll have to turn the FREEZE off to make it out alive.

I'm embarrassed to say I forgot about that one, lol. Next time I produce Ambient, I will see what I can do with EOS 2.

atm it‘s QuantX by Relab Development
fast forward to minute 15, it‘s a synth but you‘ll get the idea

I didn‘t buy it for endless tails, though. It also does very convincing small ambiences.
(bass guitar sounds exactly like a cabinet in a room (of whichever size you choose).
It‘s smooth, but kind of grainy at the same time. Very unique.
This becomes immediately obvious when switching to Valhalla (say) Vintage Verb, which has a way more „clear“ response.
For a washy sound similar to Stellarvox (without modulation of course) I‘d pick a Roland SRV2000.
(because it‘s in the rack and sounds slightly different than my other reverbs)

As mentioned it would take effort to glue sections together (which Stellarvox does on the fly), but I enjoy that kind of sound design a lot. o:)

I'm doing my best to love this Reverb, but it doesn't have that warmth to it. I'm using it with my electric guitar. I don't know why it has a metallic sort of tone. I'm having that issue at 96khz. I wonder if this might be the reason.
