  • Good reminder on the remote, @BiancaNeve

  • At the mo I'm working within the limitations of FC50 and finding it just about enough for what I need which is mainly triggering rec start whenever both of my hands are busy with either guitar or impaktor.

Yesterday I've noticed it has 3 inputs for cc controllers which could be another avenue to explore. Such a pity loopy doesn't accept program change messages for the new long press binding.

  • Loopy midi control came up on another thread. I'm using an ART X-15.

Haha, I use an old ART X-15 that I've had since the 90's. It has really sweet hot pink graffiti graphics. Lots of banks of buttons, total control of Loopy in any way I can imagine.

  • ART X15 It isn't battery powered as far as I know (not that it matters to most).

rad3d, thanks for the feedback! I might get a softstep then... I don't care for all that many switches, but with so many binding options I might end up using them... also, I wonder if the pressure sensitivity can be used to fade in/out effects in some other apps.... wich makes me wonder:
can I control parameters from different apps, regardless of wich one is up front?

Yes. Not sure you'd find pressure sensitivity to work well for fades. Probably other ways to handle.

did you had any noise issues with the softstep? (I'm considering V1 as it seems like I can get it for a pretty good price)

I have both the SS1 and SS2. Some have reported noise issues with the SS1s LEDs - which has been fixed in the SS2. That being said, I never had a noticeable noise issue with the 2 SS1s I had.

But, the footswitch configuration is the biggest reason to go with th SS2. The diamond config of the SS2, rather than the square of the SS1, makes it more reliable. Keep in mind the trigger sensors are on the corners. Again, SS1 worked fine, but it was a little easier to mistrigger.

also, do you think I could configure it this way:

    SOFTSTEP + SOUNDCARD (Scarlett 2i4?) >> USB HUB >> CCK >> IPAD

I had mine working with a 2i6 in this configuration. I use it with an iCA4+ now.

One potentially odd thing about the SoftStep is that sometimes it requires a second power source to run properly. There is a second mini USB on the unit you can use for this, if needed. Just run both USB cables from a powered hub to the SS.

BiancaNeve I've seen that, but it makes no sense to me... I'm with supadom on this one :P
I'm considering the Akai EIE instead of the Scarlett 2i4 - I hate the form-factor, but it seems more versatile for my needs... could anyone confirm if this setup would be work like this??

SOFTSTEP --- (USB) ---->> AKAI EIE (DC power) ----->> CCK ----->> IPAD

I can't validate that setup, though it should work. But I would get validation that the SS will work with it from someone.

Ah but you could attach it to the Audiobus remote.....

Maybe, but those icons can get pretty small - possibly too small for this depending on certain configs.

    Is midi 'really' so hard?

No not great for controlling multiple apps simultaneously really but I think that would be tricky with the Blueboard or air turn as well.

Airturn, yes. Blueboard not so much.

Maybe when secret bases secret sauce for the FCB comes out that might help but at the moment that's too hard for me at least.

You're probably already aware of this but Midiflow could fix this. Kinda defeats the purpose of solely using the FC50 though :P

  • I know @thatsRayor but I'd rather keep the limitations of FC rather than having to set up another app in my already complicated rig. I just got this monster anyway ;)

    Yes it is!
