How to load Wavetables into Logics Retro Synth?

Found this resource on Github: https://github.com/publicsamples/Retro-Synth-Wavetables

Is there a way to import them into the iPad version?

  • I can’t give you an answer, but if we ping @Samu or @klownshed you probably have an answer to trust on.

As I see it, you/we can’t load patches nor wavetables into Retro Synth on Logic Pro for iPad…

Best way is to go thru Logic for Mac…

According to the Logic Prof for Ipad manual you should be able to load custom wavetables. I haven't figured out how though. Drag and drop doesn't seem to work. The documentation doesn't give any additional info.

    Thanks for the help.

I think they should include the desktop version in the subscription..

Thanks for the help, under the green default wavetable label is a submenu where you can select between factory wavetables (labeled app wavetables there) and custom wavetables, but the custom label is greyed out and doesn't react to touch input.

When you mention this (the text in manual) I have a small memory of someone here told us that the text in manual is wrong, just a Logic Mac text slipped thru into iPad ditto…

As I said earlier, perhaps several other Logic nerds join this thread…

...if one already owns the Mac version the iPad version should be 'free' :sunglasses:

    One can dream..

Maybe they're preparing a super ultra pro bundle with Siris yet to be announced new sample generating music AI capabilities 😅

But it sucks that you can't resell your license like you can with other DAWs, this and the coupling to up to date MacOS version was why I never even considered Logic on the desktop in first place (I had a Hackintosh for a decade).

What an excellent way to increase Mac desktop sales! Create a subtle dependence on the Logic for Mac version which will cause Logic Pro for Ipad users to storm to their nearest Apple Stores to purchase Macs out of anger and frustration. Timmy is brillant:)

Not the end of the world though, I have Drambo with the wavetable addon which I can use as a plugin, and a folder of Serum Wavetables from classic synths, that's my default for fat synth sounds. I was just trying to get the most out of Logics Retro Synth but simply won't use it if I need a fat sound, that's it.

Yeah, I initially responded out of curiosity and was actually trying to use wavetable files from my Drambo folder in the Retro Synth. I'm glad I delved further into it because I've rediscovered a hidden beast: Synthmaster One! Using custom wavetables with it is really easy yet very powerful! I watched Doug's video from a few years ago to get a handle on it in standalone mode and then tested it in LP4i. Drag and drop doesn't work but clicking to bring up the internal file browser works great.

Thanks for the Synthmaster tip. According to a comment by the dev their third version is coming in september '24 to the iPad.

There's also Buttersynth which is Serum compatible, it's also on my nice to have plugin list.

Yeah, no access to the library files on the iPad. I'm pretty sure you can access presets you use in Mac projects even if they use custom tables but it's not practical to save them all on the iPad. You could save a bunch of the best ones if you had the time and inclination I guess...

TBH I've not used the wavetable mode in retro synth much. I tend to like analogue monosynths most, so use the virtual analogue tab all the time so wasn't even aware you could load user wavetables into retrosynth on the Mac. If I ever get the time I may have to explore the wavetable synth more.

Many (too many to comfort) years ago I did use to make wavetables for my old Ensoniq EPS16+... that was a tricky workflow to get right! The transwave features of those old Ensoniqs was way ahead of its time...Amazing what you could achieve with 1MB RAM!

Probably, but I don't own Logic on the Mac. I'm just trying Logic on the iPad until Ableton 12 is released in March which I laready have the license for. I was thinking about selling the license and getting a bigger iPad with external monitor support, and use Logic on the iPad as my main DAW, I'd rather spend the $200 for more storage than for Logic on the desktop which I wouldn't use much, and can't even resell.

I think it tries to resemble the vintage PPGs that why it's blue lol, and the digital sounds are actually quite nice, especially with a bitcrusher. It's just that the other modes can't touch the Drambo wavetable combination I'm using for dubby poly pad and stab sounds, and I wanted to see if the right wavetables could change that.

Sample Alchemy with the right chord sample could be an alternative too.

I always wanted a Fizmo because it looked so cool.

  • It is possible to import a custom wavetable in RetroSynth for LogicPro4iOS. The catch is to have a desktop version of Logic Pro. 🫠

The process is simple: drag'n'drop a custom wavetable in desktop RetroSynth, save the project, then import the project in LogicPro4iOS.

  • Importing into Logic Pro Desktop, saving then transferring to the Ipad is cumbersome and not and option for people who don't have a Mac.

I submitted a ticket to Apple. Hopefully it makes it into the next update which should be out within a few months judging by their past update release schedule.

Hoping to see a bigger push into "AI" automation and assistance in the next update. Also would not mind seeing Apple add their own versions of Synplant 2 and SWAM instruments to their offerings.

    Thanks 🙌

    @Luxthor

I wish they kept or improved on their skeumorphic retro design. Not a fan of their old "spaceship" look for some synths, but flattening retro synths that resemble hardware into a cookie cutter business web app like UI..
