Corrupt Logic project won’t open. Any fix?
Hi, I just tried to open a project and it keeps crashing Logic.
Hadn’t opened in a while and never had issues. I’ve tried a zillion times, even restarted the iPad. I really need this project!. Any advice or things I can try?. It’s on the iCloud Logic folder… also tried downloading directly from iCloud (via web browser) with same result. I have iCloud backups turned on but I wouldn’t want to restore the whole iPad plus I don’t know when it became corrupt or broken.
Thanks in advance!

Wow, that's worst case scenario. Maybe you should call your friend Tom Barman !
I have absolutely no idea how to fix this, and I hope some savvy member will offer you a real fix.
Just a silly suggestion and I doubt this would fix anything but still worth trying: instead of downloading the file via web browser, Have you tried to copy the file using the file app to "on my iPad" directory?
The good news: you'll be glad to know that iCloud Drive does indeed now have a Document Revisions database. I'm not sure when this was added, but it was recently.
The bad news: I think apps have to specifically support it with some kind of UI, and Files.app and Logic Pro don't seem to do so. That's just dandy, isn't it? The good version of your file is just sitting there in the cloud, twiddling its thumbs.
Have you tried the iMazing, etc route? I think these kinds of apps can restore specific files from an iCloud device backup.
Can you send a link to your file to someone you know and trust who uses Logic Pro on desktop?
Vote for better congressmen and congresswomen. That way the machine isn't so corrupt. 😂🤣
Okay, now the serious answer...
Did you use any AUv3 plugins in the project? Did you use Buttersynth at all?
way to go, try to open it on mac.
I did use plugins and synths but no idea what they were. It was a song idea.
Actually something similar happened to me on Zenbeats with a project that used Nurack. It would crash upon start.
I checked the logs and can’t make any sense of them, no reference to anything known… if it’s something to do with a plugin I don’t know which one.
Update. I tried to open on a Mac via AirDrop and it opened!.
Like I said it was just an idea so it didn’t have a lot of plugins. On the Mac I could see the “plugin not on your system list”. Best Break, Cascade, Mantis, True Pan… Sent the project back, crashed iPad Logic again…
So I thought “I’ll uninstall them one by one and see what happens”. Uninstalling True Pan fixed it, I can now open the project!. That’s very good news.
The bad news is that plugin management in Logic sucks, doesn’t it?. If a plugin is causing some issue it should be disabled, frozen, whatever, and issue a warning. As it is it’s impossible to know which plugin causes issues.
Note: instead of uninstalling plugins on the iPad randomly I could have removed plugins on the Mac and saved the project, but still sucks.
Edit: wrong timing, sorry.
I had a feeling it was an AUv3 plugin. At least we now know which was the culprit. Wish Logic indeed had better plugin management, but at least now we know which plugin was incompatible. Sucks. 😮💨
Just posting here this fantastic video about rebuilding corrupted projects in Logic, which maybe could be helpful.
I have tried something simmilar in Auria pro. It seemed like one plug-in messed up the whole project and there was no way to manage them to find the naughty fellow.
Scary stuff
Quantovox make great plugins and they’re super attentive and professional, I had an issue once and he was super hands-on. I’ll notify him and I’m sure he’ll fix it, might not even be the plugin but a series of coincidences. Anyway, a plugin shouldn’t prevent opening a project. It is scary.
I had a feeling that would work. I’ve had a similar issue with corrupted iOS GarageBand files which I then was able to open with macOS Logic Pro.
I also have a large number of iOS GB files which both GB and LP won’t open on desktop now. It’s aggravating.
I guess that’s handy if you have a Mac as well. Scary when you are only using an iPad. I’ve had a few projects that have been a little crashy and then took 3-4 attempts before I was able to open them again.
One trick which I have discovered that might help others is closing Logic and reopening at the project page, select another project that you know works. Once it opens close it and then try and open the project that wouldn’t open. So far every time I’ve done this I’ve been successful in getting back into the project I couldn’t open.
