Is there a way (or AU plug-in) to record AUM output directly as an .mp3?
Using podcast and browser plugins in AUM, I’d like to save long sessions to listen later when I’m offline and driving the car. Is it possible to record output in AUM directly as a compressed file like mp3 to save space?
Comments
I doubt it. Basically, you need to have a file before you can compress it. But, as soon as you've recorded it, you can use AudioShare to convert the format and delete the original.
The only way I can think to do it is to stream the output to a Mac and record it as mp3 there.
Loopy Pro’s session recordings can be done in a compressed format. It might even be the default. You can make use of that when it is either running standalone or as an AU.
Loopy’s compressed files are mp4.
You could use the Shortcuts app to convert the WAV files in your AUM sessions folder tree and optionally move them to another folder and delete the originals. You could have an icon on your Home Screen to run the shortcut whenever ready.
[edit] humm.... Shortcuts doesn't seem to recursively browse folders within Audioshare, which is where the recordings are stored. It does for other file locations, but Audioshare is different as it is a file provider. This won't work. 🧐
Thank you all for the replies. Haven’t bought loopy yet. Yeah, I guess I will have to keep converting. Was hoping there was a way to eliminate that step.
Thanks
FWIW, most podcasts are pretty heavily compressed to start out with. Most podcast apps will let you download for later listening.
It would be great if @j_liljedahl could add an option to pick an alternative storage location in AUM. If the files were outside of AudioShare it would be a breeze to batch convert them, archive them, delete them, etc. using the shortcuts app.
