Korg Gadget AUv3 file access

Sorry but how do you access the files uploaded from iTunes with the AUv3 versions of the gadgets? It only gives me the option to import from Documents, while in the stand alone version it lets me choose files Uploaded from your PC

I'd suggest creating a 'Samples' folder in the Gadget folder using Files.app and put the files there...
You can connect to any SMB share/server directly from Files.app which should make file-transfer easier regardless of the platform being used, no iTunes needed...

  • Excuse my ignorance, but what is "file.app"? Is the application to manage files pre-installed on the iPad? Right? And what do you mean by "SMB"? Thank you

Files.app is the app you use to manage files & folders on your iPad.

SMB is a protocol used for network file-shares, you can set up a file-share on your PC and when you've done that you can using the Files.app on your iPad connect to your PC and access the files and copy the stuff you need.

If you don't know how to set up a SMB share Google & Youtube are your friends, plenty of tutorials out there :sunglasses:

  • But with iTunes it is not possible to access the folder created by File.app? It seems easier to transfer files

I've not used iTunes to transfer files in ages.
I store most of my stuff on a network-drive which I can easily access from all my devices.
Other options would be to use cloud-services such as DropBox or GoogleDrive.

Do what ever works for you...

  • Where is the "documents" folder??? I can see it in Korg's AUV3 but not from File.app!!!

The 'Documents' in the AUv3 is a 'sandboxed' location you can NOT access it with Files.app you can only import to it.

That is how Korg chose to do it for their AUv3s, nothing I can do about that...

Feel free to file a bug-report directly to them...

yes but earlier you wrote that I could transfer the samples from the PC to the iPad via the network. But if the folder is not accessible from Windows/Mac, how can I import them into the documents folder? Now I'm writing to Korg, let's see who responds

You can still create a smb network share with the samples on your PC, mount the shared folder in Files.app and form the Gadget AUv3 import the files directly from the mounted folder on your PC...

  • Note: You probably need to import the files using the stand-alone version of Gadget. Then the AUv3 will be able to access them. This happens because AUv3 plug-ins are a bit special. They run as a component of the host app, so they are even more restricted than normal stand-alone apps.

Import in what sense? It seems the folders are different. In the stand alone version it is the folder that I can manage from iTunes, while in the auv3 version it is the "documents" folder which is hidden. Furthermore, the kits created with the stand alone version (for example with Bilbao I create drum kits), are not visible in the auv3 version, what the fuck

Using iTunes is outdated and restrictive. As Samu suggested an SMB share is the way to go. The built-in IOS Files app. can easily access SMB shares. The shares can be easily setup on the same computer that you're running iTunes on (https://howto.hyonix.com/article/create-shared-folders-in-windows-server/) It can also be setup on many routers by plugging an external drive in a USB port on the router. (https://techunwrapped.com/configure-samba-server-on-asus-routers-and-share-files-on-network/).

I addition, make sure you are running the latest version of Gadget. Korg fixed some of the file import issues which were present in the initial release: https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/59190/new-korg-update-gadget-3-with-au-support/p13

  • Secondly, you're kidding me. It's not a question of using iTunes (which works great, since I drag the folder directly into the app I'm interested in, and I find it), but the fact that the "documents" folder is hidden, therefore not reachable from the outside! But I would have to import one sample at a time and without even hearing it! If you don't know what I'm talking about, forget it!

  • YOU SEE???? in the auv3 version I can create the "test" folder from the iPad, but it cannot be reached from the network or from iTunes! While the "reFx Nexus Essential" folder I copied it from the PC and pasted it into the iPad

Until Korg 'links' the two folders it is what it is, the AUv3 is sandboxed and you can NOT access it via iTunes or Files.app...
...you'll have to import the samples you wish you use with the AUv3 into the AUv3's own sandbox, that's it...

I understood this, and in my opinion it is a big limitation! Because it forces you to import a sample! While in the stand alone version you can import everything without limitations.

Actually I was kidding just a bit because I never liked iTunes and haven't used it in years:) But I get where you're coming from and can understand your frustration. I guess we'll just have to wait on Korg to remedy this situation. In the past I have used Ifunbox an iMazing to get around some of these sandboxing issues. I'm mostly a MacOS and Linux user but both are available on Windows.

I know iFunbox very well, but without jailbreak it is useless because it would see the same folders that iTunes sees...

  • I never liked using custom samples in Gadget, and now it sounds like the AUv3 versions are even worse. Maybe it’s not worth the hassle; maybe there are other (non-Korg) plugins out there that would handle this situation better?

I'm using the GR16 as a drum sampler in AUV3 and it allows you to use your own samples (not sandboxed), it's just that it's really impractical for this type of use, but at least I overcome the "sand-box" problem
