Yayoba - A Maze of Glass

Absolutely thrilled and excited to announce the release of this debut album.
Cassette and digital.

Yayoba - A Maze of Glass
Not Not Fun Records, NNF414
Debut album of our 5th-world futurist fusion trio!

yayoba.bandcamp.com/album/a-maze-of-glass

Yayoba triangulate warped constellations of electronics, woodwinds, hand percussion, and field recordings via their respective bases in Brighton (UK), Turku (FIN), and Wiesbaden (DE), coaxing a sound they describe as “like a beam of light passing through translucent glass walls in a labyrinth.” Comprised of legacy experimentalists Paul Wilson (F. Ampism), Jani Hirvonen (Uton), and Johannes Schebler (Baldruin) – the latter two of whom also moonlight in “crypto-botanical” electro-acoustic unit Grykë Pyje – the group operate spontaneously and post-geographically, file-sharing sketches, textures, and FX until an alien synergy takes hold.
A Maze Of Glass collects 16 of the project’s headiest and most hyper-sensory improvisations into a 47-minute microcosmic odyssey of fractal, radiophonic exotica. Circuit-bent devotionals dovetail into pixelated mists; diaphanous lifeforms lurch through psychoactive caverns; cybernetic miasmas dance and dissipate. It’s music both placeless and perplexing, undulating and uncanny, hieroglyphic transmissions echoing from the depths.

Ah - so that is you on Insta, different name. Interesting, good luck!

  • Yeah, I'm in disguise on here... :D

  • This is sick. That album cover rules too. I can’t wait to hear the whole thing 🤩 is this mostly iOS? Desktop? Hardware? Very interested in your process and setup. Some of these sounds on the singles are beautiful.

Wow! So glad you dig it! Thanks for the kind words

Some iOS. Almost certainly some Nambu. Pretty sure there's some Kronecker on there. Dexed. Other bits....There's some norns on there probably....Don't really know what the other two use. Jani uses more "real" instruments than Johannes and I do...I think. There's some Korg hardware on there...
Sorry - that's not very helpful, ha!

No need to apologize I just always love hearing what people use and how they use it. So interesting to me :)

Nambu and Kronecker are 2 of my favorites as well. Make sure to come back and remind us when it’s released 😁

I'm only two tracks in, but I like it a lot and teh cover art is indeed goergeous.
Only one criticism so fare: they are too short.

    Thanks!
I tend to agree with you about track length. I'll suggest to the other 2/3rds of the trio that we extend them for the next album!

  • Lovely work, particularly enjoyed Bustle on a Glass Street and Farewell to Adventure.
Nicely different to the ‘norm’… if there is such a thing here 🤔
    I agree with Joseph… too short 🙏
