Midi editing features lacking on linear IOS DAWs
Does anyone else feel frustrated by this shortcoming?
I am a die-hard NS2 user. This is for several big reasons but at the top of the list is its midi editing.
The only other app with pro level midi editing is Xequence. But that has other limitations making it impractical for me.
So what are the midi editing features that are missing from daws like AudioEvolution, CB3, and even Logic Pro? I use these features constantly in NS2
- flexible event selection. Specifically the ability to quickly make a horizontal selection of velocities and CCs. I.e. ignoring values above and below.
- the ability to quickly and precisely move events left, right, up and down without risk of unintended movement. CB3 does allow this.
- ability to scale velocity and CC events. Think MIDI compression. This is invaluable to making global adjustments while maintaining relative feel for whatever is being controlled.
Even some external app or auv that would accept a direct paste from a daw would work for me. E.g. workflow is copy the events from the track, paste into this imaginary app, edit, and paste back into track. Or maybe a midi auv3 to serve as a shadow piano roll track recording and displaying all events.
So I’m looking for an option 2 before NS2 becomes complete abandonware. It’s been fine so far but it’s just a matter of time I think.
