Launchpad IAA broken in AUM?

Can anyone else confirm that Launchpad running as IAA in AUM appears broken? Launchpad doesn’t appear to actually launch any of its pads when running from AUM… Also AUM’s tempo doesn’t appear to impact Launchpad tempo. Ableton link on or off doesn’t seem to make a difference either…

It does work if you jump through a few fiery hoops…
Start AUM
Create track and add LP as iaa
Switch to LP
Close LP
Switch to AUM, LP still looks active, but it’s not…
Press LP
This seems to launch non-IAA LP
Switch back to AUM, see “crashed” LP… Click Reload in AUM under LP
Now audio etc seems to work.

Sooooo obvious… 🤨

  • Tempo isn’t working for me right now but everything is functioning as it should. What device and OS are you on?

    Air3 current everything

  • I’m on an Air5 (2022) with current OS so maybe it’s a device specific thing?

I’m having the same tempo issues but I’m able to play the pads and launch the clips just fine. Maybe someone else with an Air3 can weigh in.

  • I think this may be Devine inspiration to finally learn RemixLive…🤣

🤣 just a heads up, one downside of RemixLive is there’s no dedicated button to switch back to AUM which can be a pain. I think it’s coming in an update at some point though.

For an app like that about the only reason I want it to have a foot in AUM is to run it through GrandFinale and maybe Turnado… So if given the choose between a non-functioning app with the AUM button vs an app that actually works that lacks the button… Not a hard choice. 😀

Ah gotcha, in that case you should be fine then. And you may be impressed with some of RemixLive’s extra features. It’s a pretty cool app.

  • It works fine for me on Air4 iOS 17.3.1
    I launch AUM.
    I launch Launchpad.
I load Launchpad as IAA in AUM.
    Ableton Link syncs the tempos.
    Launchpad buttons work correctly.

You don't mention the alternative of starting Launchpad directly from the Home Screen, before connecting to it from inside AUM. I believe this has become pretty standard for IAAs with recent iOS versions. Somehow, the way AUM or Audiobus starts them doesn't allow them to fully initialize. This would always be my second choice for launching a troubled IAA, instead of beating AUM with a stick, trying to make it work.

  • Maybe it is the IAA Apple deprecation thing kicking in.. Runs ok here Air 4 latest iOS.. but it’s hell trying to run RemixLive together with Launchpad..

Yea… Seems like the issue is launching from with AUM…
I think IAA is finally getting the bullet to the head…

Oh how I hope this isn’t the case 😖 still so many IAA apps I use all the time.

  • This is Launchpad side y’all. I just tried this in AUM and in Loopy Pro. It must have been their latest update that broke something. Shame. I have relyed on this for specific projects. Very Lame on Novation’s part.

That’s not caused by Novation and they can’t do anything about it. That’s a general problem that all IAA apps can have at one time or another. The solution is to start the app first on its own and then add it into the host.

This generally makes it work for Launchpad and other IAA apps. If you can’t start it at all in standalone mode or if you can’t load it into the host after that then that’s a different story. I just tried it here and it works.

Sadly, youlll just have to get used to it. Apple isn’t maintaining the IAA libraries any more. At some point they may cease to function at all.

  • Working for me too on different iPads. Just launch it first then add it to AUM - have you tried this yet?
I’m hoping that the demise of IAA will mean that LP or RL will have to look towards making them AU’s. But there is no sign of any of them doing that. They surely don’t think that people are just going to use them standalone?
One big advantage of LP over RL is that you can import sets straight from Blocs Wave.

  • About Remixlive, its functionally great but it is unreliable for live shows and it has frozen on me many times especially when MIDI mapping controllers that it "supports out of the box", so it's a no go for live shows for me. I use Ampify Launchpad at live shows confidently.

The only reason for me to use AUM with Launchpad would be to send the audio through different AU processors/modulators. Otherwise Launchpad stand-alone + Ableton Link along with other apps works great.
