Easy money for a dev that makes Reactable Snap as an AU

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/snap-reactable-drum-machine/id1276650009

Somehow this is still on the App Store even though those guys have been gone for a while.

I would seriously welcome an AU drum pattern generator that is parameter controlled like this.

If there’s a dev interested, him me up, as I have a few ideas and I’d even be willing to partner to get it developed.

  • What do you mean by ‘parameter controlled’?

  • Yes please. The magnet idea is too cool and unique not to take advantage of.

Instead of tapping in notes XOX style, or recording in, etc. you basically have a set of parameters per part that dictate how a parts rhythm is generated.

Snap basically has a density function (higher the slider, the more notes) and it has 4 “modes” that kinda control where the notes are placed with the bar (straight on beats on one extreme, and like the ‘a’ of all beats on the other)

So if it’s set straight and you move slider up to 4th position, you get 4 hits spaced evenly.

What’s cool is that you can also manually set hits, so you can make it so that 4 hits are all 16th notes on first beat. Then when you move slider back to 4, it knows that “4” is basically 4 16th notes on one as opposed to default of spreading 4 hits across the bar.

I’ve been looking for years for something similar and have not found it.

The iOS app Different Drummer is an example of when you take the parameter based approach so far past it’s logical extreme it becomes unusable. 🥴

An AU that allowed for a few parameters like:
Track length (ie number of beats per instrument)
    Hits per track
Front vs back weighting (ie more notes at beginning of track, more notes ar end, or evenly distributed)
    Rotate

This approach would also allow for Euclidean rhythms as well. Actually, thinking of it as a Euclidean sequencer that you can slew or bias would be a good way to think of it…

Also, it would be different than something like MI Grids/Marbles. Those are like table lookup. I’m thinking something where you have a bit more intentionality and control.

  • Easy money indeed! This little guy is so fun driving drum apps within AUM! I can’t believe I haven’t opened this app in YEARS. Thank you for reminding us.
And my money is waiting for anything like this in auv3!

@MonkeyDrummer thanks a lot for posting this. You just breathed new life in an old iPad 2 that was more or less waiting for the electronics recycling. Snap was installed, but I never really used it and was completely unaware of how easy it is to make some beats. Now linking it via Link to my main iPad 9 and through that my complete setup makes this an ideal drum machine for jamming.
    Great !

Doesn't Playbeat do this? You can set parameters like number of hits, density, panning, volume, and flam for each lane and have it randomize.
