AUM output to MIXPRE3 not balanced?
Hello -
I have run into a problem when I use my Sound Devices MixPre3 as a sound interface for my iPad Pro running AUM. The signal is not balanced and the right channel is significantly louder.
Has anyone run into this or a similar problem - and what could be the issue? I can adjust the input balance but that is not ideal.
I have been testing with various apps - and all have the same output issue - I have check setting in AUM and have double checked everything on my MixPre3.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Have you tried importing internally recorded files directly? Are they in balance?
Yes they are normal when I record internally - but going out through the MixPre they are out of balance. I am just testing for potential live and/or mixing on another recording device during an improvisation.
This might be more of a question for Sound Devices - but wondered if anyone else had some similar issues with external sound interfaces?
Hi @mnortham ,
don't mess stereo-L/R balance with a balanced signal.
The Stereo output on the MixPre s a 3.5mm mini-jack (looking at pictures of the MixPre 3 II, don't know if version I is different).
Thats an unbalanced stereo signal, while the xlr-inputs are balanced mono.
What kind signal are you trying to record, meaning what device is connected to your inputs?
Try changing inputs one and two an see what happens. Did you set the analog gain properly?
Since the xlr-inputs are designed for microphones / field recording, there might be a 'PAD' setting somewhere in the menu.
'PAD' is a 20db attenuation (sometimes 30db) which is a lot.
Hope that helps
Sorry for not being clearer.
By Balance meaning L R balance - not balanced as in XLR etc.
MixPre as an interface for the ipad - is producing a stereo signal internally that is not equal on the L and R signals.
Using a test tone I see that the R channel is louder than the L channel and so internally have to adjust it before I send the signal out to mixer, speakers, etc.
