  • Beautiful stuff. I've been listening to your recent uploads on Soundcloud, although there are so many it's been hard to keep up. This really is very enjoyable to listen to.

Thanks, Richard. Really appreciate the support and comments from you 🙏🏻

Since I had to give up work on medical grounds, my creative time is now plenty and my mind is so much freer to think, expand and experiment.

AUM is the perfect environment to just relax, float around in and noodle casually. I'm not interested in the precise and perfect anymore. It's very therapeutic and good for the soul.

  • Keep at it, your music is awesome 🙌

  • Sounds good my man. Isn't it sick that when you're sick you are finally free to create (been in that boat for 14 years now and no land in sight). I ask myself sometimes if I would change to take all the pain and all the fucking daily meds away in exchange for going back to work and, I honestly don't know. Well, it says something about the system I guess.

    Keep it up!

    Keep it up!

    I hear you, mate!
I suddenly got five different meds to take daily. Quite a contrast compared to needing zero meds for the last 54 years! I got a blue pill, a pink pill, a yellow pill and two white pills. Oh, and not forgetting the RED pill which I already swallowed...hmmm...that would be 4 years ago....

Tbh the last couple of years I had become increasingly frustrated and angered and actually saddened on a daily basis at work since our nice private solitary little company got sold and swallowed up by a huge ugly global corporation which has steadily ruined everything me and the boss had built up over the previous 10 years.

Efficiency - gone. Profit - gone. Staff morale - gone. Motivation - gone. Some valued clients - gone. Common sense - gone. Quality - gone. The list goes on....Idiotic.

I got so absolutely bloody sick of it, I was already thinking about trying to take early retirement next year at 55.

Seems like the universe either heard me or already had early retirement plans laid out for me from the beginning! Kidney failure - a helluva way to get out, I wouldn't have chosen it, but it did the job! Lol.

I guess it depends on the quality of life you are left with after a serious illness vs the quality of life you have in the workplace as a fit and healthy person.

Would I choose to change this health situation and go back to work? At the moment that would be a big fat NO with no hesitation from me.
Like you say. I now have all the time to create, which I always wanted but couldn't have because of work commitments.
Dialysis 3x a week is ok and painless with very minimal after effects, sometimes none. I'm still fully functional and independant. In fact I feel miles better now than I did for the whole of 2023 when my kidneys were steadily failing, unknown to me, and I was getting slowly more toxified to life-threatening levels!

Ask me again in a few years when my condition may have taken more of a toll on me, and you might get a different answer!

Thanks for the thoughtful comment, I wish you all the best with your own health situation. Always make the most of what you got and what you can do. Don't get hung up and concerned on the things you don't have and can't do. Stay as positive as possible. 👊😊🙏🏻

  • Beautiful, relaxing, and... alien, just like the cover art.

Thanks for listening and the add on Soundcloud. Returning the favour now 👍👍

  • I hope this is representative of your state of mind, Spider. I’d be glad of it.

It certainly is. Pretty chilled, relaxed and a lot freer these days to experiment and let the imagination wander.
Thanks for dropping by, Mike 👊😃👍

  • @Spidericemidas well life gave you lemons and you made lemonade and some awesome music. I barely know you but I love you brother. Music and stupid chats on the internet have made us at least sympatico. Any hope for a kidney transplant to better your situation?

You have been super prolific and might have tempted me to post some jams. In any case you are an inspiration as a human an musician and a sound designer.

    many many regards

  • Really enjoyed this, you have another follower and I’ll defo be checking out more of your stuff. Sorry to hear of your health issues, sounds like making freeform music is helping you cope though.

Hi mate. Good to find you here 👊😎
Many thanks for your kind thoughts and comments. Very much appreciated!

Early days yet for considering the transplant option. Loads of genetic testing and physical testing to be done first before gaining approval to join the waiting list.

Yes, why not post some jams? I'm only just embarking on the jamming journey now I have more creative time. Lots of practise needed! It's challenging, but in a good way. I've always worked on the grid in Gadget, all pre-programmed. I'm not so concerned these days with labouring over EQing and production trying to chase a level of polish that I'll never achieve. Just a reasonable mix and a little variation in the structure is enough for me now. It's more fun and relaxing and tonnes more productive this way just casually noodling something out in AUM.

Hope you will get to posting some jams soon. Just have fun!

Yes, I think any kind of creative activity is therapeutic and good for the soul. For me, it's music and sound design.

  • There are some really cool presets used in this. They paint a really neat mood. Cool artsy picture that goes with the song too.

Yeah I can list the actual presets used when I get back to my iPad tomorrow. I like the way the sweeping Continua preset occasionally pierces through the background layers. That synth always sounds quite ethereal.

Thanks for checking it out 👍

    Presets used:

Kronecker - Once upon a Time
    Continua - Pad - Dreamcatcher
    Continua - Pluck - 3 Wishes
    Mitosynth - Ch'i
    Sunrizer - Siren's Song

All presets from the synths' respective Spidericemidas banks.

Everything went into one bus out with Alteza, Pro-Q2 Reverb, Stereo WIDER, Limiter in the fx chain.

Thank you for the list! I have a nice bank of your presets for Sunrizer, but I don’t see Siren’s Song in the list. Would you have a handy link for an updated bank with that preset? I love your sound presets. They have feeling.

Ah yes. My first bank was added to Sunrizer's web library by Beep Street. Siren's Song is from my second bank but it was never added to Sunrizer's web library, and personally I think it's a better bank than the first - lots of pads and ambient sounds.

Doug did a youtube demo and included a dropbox link in the description for it. It's here on the forum. Hopefully his link still works. If not, let me know and I'll try setting up a new one.

Great! The link works and I have the presets now. Thank you very much!

Edit: These presets are perfect for what I’m working on today. Punching up an old ambient trumpet track from my early recording days. Will post it soon.

Oh good! Glad that old link still works.

An ambient track with trumpet sounds great. I don't hear much trumpet used in ambient tracks. One of my favourites is "At the River" by Groove Armada. Look it up on youtube if you're not familiar with it. I'm assuming it's trumpet, and it works perfectly.

Please tag me in the post if you release it. Would love to listen.

I sure will! I also found your MitoSynth presets. Your presets have inspired another song today which I will probably post before the trumpet one. You are right, there’s not many ambient trumpet stuff lately. I will check out “At the river”. Here’s a quasi-ambient piece posted a couple years ago I made on trumpet. Have a listen if you have the time:

Making use of those Continua presets I made years ago! Unfortunately I can't have too many instances of Continua running in AUM at once as my iPad wants to explode 😅
For the more cpu hungry synths, I'm looking at converting some of their parts into recorded audio to replace the synth itself. That should save some cpu.
