JWM - Va Te (Explicit, Somewhat Controversial) (Rockish Triphop in Koala Sampler, CB3)

Content Warning - Explicit

Disclaimer - This song is also about the same ex-friend I wrote "Wicked Lies" about.

However, this song is a bit more focused on the REASON she betrayed me and my protest against that. In short, my ex-friend tried to forcefully and bluntly evangelise me (since I'm not religious) as well as promised to try to evangelise my cousin who so happens to like men. She pretended to be my cousin's ally for the length of time she knew him as well as pretended to accept my beliefs for two years. (Yeah, as you can tell, I'm still trying to move past this sad situation through music.)

Disclaimer 2

If you so happen to be religious, that's perfectly alright by me. We can safely agree to disagree and still be friends in the end. Which I tried to reason with my ex-friend about, but she'd have none of it and refused to listen. So...yeah, I went "no-contact" with her and advised my cousin to do the same.

Anyways, I modelled this track based on Crystal Method and Rammstein, but as said in the Soundcloud description, the German version of "Eff Off" was only two syllables. So I scrolled through various translations of the phrase and settled on French since it has four syllables and rolls off the tongue nicely. 😆

Most of the lyrics were inspired by Rammstein as well as Glenn Frey's writing. Yeah, strange combination indeed. But somehow I made it work.

And yes, that's me doing the "demon growl" vocals. I don't know how I did it without ripping my throat to shreds. 😂 I do know I used ToneBoosters' Vocal Pitcher to deepen the voice. The vocoded vocals were done with DerVoco, using Cubasis' Micrologue synth as the carrier. The other shouting over the "demon growl" vocals during the chorus was just me shouting the title of the song a few times over and over again until it sounded like a crowd shouting.

Disclaimer 3 - Hopefully the discussion below will focus on the music itself, but if any other discussion arises, keep it civil please and not heated. Also, if the mods deem this to be inappropriate for the forum, they are free to remove this thread. Afterall, it's to their discretion, not mine, and I won't take offense.

I hope you like it. Cheers. 🍻

  • It's very different from your usual style, that's for sure! Love the vocals. The backing track is cool too, but I'd love to hear it with even heavier massive Rammstein drums!

That would be awesome mate! :) Alas, I did it in Koala where I can't beef up the drums like I could in something like NS2, Cubasis, or even FLSM. Glad you love the vocals. :) I definitely love to try out new styles and such.

Up next will be a far tamer song called "The Clothes My Grandfather Wore", an EDM Irish Jig I originally made back in 2004. My production skills were lacking back then, or rather, were just starting to sprout from the ground. What will the new version sound like 20 years later? Stay tuned. ;)

  • Holy crap! Didn’t imagine this from you - this is great! The effects on the vocal really make this.

Killer track, Jim. I love the key change! That really adds tension. This was completely unexpected and I like it. Songs of despair. I feel ya, bro!

Looking forward to the Irish jig! Mom was 100% Irish and I had to listen to that stuff every Saturday morning on the Irish American Hour with John MacNamara when I was growing up. Do you remember The Clancy Brothers with Tommy Makem?

    This was a good one!

    Drinking and fighting music.

I'm glad you dig it mate. :) My first time trying out this style. I swear, one of these days I will return to Ambient, but it doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon, lol.

Thanks mate. :) Glad you understand. Oof. Yeah the past two weeks have been rough on me.

A fellow half-Irishman! Sláinte! 🍻 I'm half Irish (Dad), and half Polish (Mom).

Ah, fantastic music. :) Yes, I grew up with all sorts of Irish music, from ballads, jigs, harp music, etc. My first taste of such music was "The Unicorn Song" from The Irish Rovers. Ah, childhood nostalgia. <3

Believe it or not, when I wrote "The Clothes My Grandfather Wore", I wrote it with my father in mind. Just that the word "grandfather" rolls off the tongue better than simply "father" when in a 12|8 time signature. :)

  • Oh, and for the record, I'm not going to attempt an Irish accent while singing like some dumb yankee. I did that in the original 2004 version. It's f--king cringe. 😬😂 I'll suffer listening to the original version to get the lyrics marked down so you won't have to.
