I return bearing gifts

Hello friends
I promised I would return and here I am, although I already said hello to most of my old friends, if I missed you, my bad!
The dream cartel is closed for good and with my new hardware I am uninhibited.

I am still learning the complicated advanced features but I got enough under my belt to start the EP drop. I didn’t know u could ask for a username change otherwise I would have but it was after the fact…

This first album is going to be a bit raw as I am producing it all internally in the field unit itself. I only export the final mix to add a small amount of mastering from GF2 with a fade out usually. So my rig is fairly simple : the op1 field + iPad m1 (Cubasis)+ axe Fx (guitars) + Beats Studio headphones

(and my korg Volca drum is patiently waiting to jump into the game too). Sometimes I’ll use Logic with my Mac for the AI mastering but I haven’t used it with this EP yet. My Roland s-1 still may make a cameo as well.

So here is track 1 in no particular order from my first EP I wrote in over 15 years.

Hope you like it

…as always any feedback is welcome and appreciated -Hope you like it. Please lmk if you do

  • Welcome back :)

Just so you know the SC link is missing up there ☝

  • It's working now, I'll post it so you can listen without leaving this page:

  • I really like the plucked melody, and the overall eastern feel of the track.

Thanks a lot man!! (And for the helping post)!

  • Welcome back, I liked the hesitant nature of it, kept me on my toes, if you see what I mean 👍

  • Oud of this world., bro.

    Groans!

My ex-wife has a hundred-year-old oud that she refuses to let me tune, for fear that the pegs will snap. I’m dying to turn it into a sampled instrument.

  • How are you finding the OP-1 Field? I like your use of the tape features.

  • Glad you are feeling inspired.
    Nice breathable beat.

Thanks dude. I’m glad it kept you in good suspense - that’s a nuance a lot won’t feel or get I think, good ear

Oh you clever one. That was the best one liner I’ve ever gotten thanks !!

Personally I find it to be the most fascinating piece of hardware I could find. It literally does everything I ever wanted hardware+software wise and it’s done in a portable and elegant solution. I write in my bedroom, carry it to the studio, record some instruments and then finish it whenever I want once the samples are in. I love the tape fx and the actual fx are so good , they are the best combination fx I’ve ever heard:CWO, nitro, punch, grid, mother. Just incredible sounding fx combos in an incredibly genius algorithm.

I bought about $200 in iPad software and $200 for Logic , and about $100 for my Minilab 3 and my iPad and Mac m1 was $600 each or so + tax so to compare them makes sense to me, I paid $1850 for the field and almost the same for my Mac iOS production stuff for the compute and software (not including hardware like synths or drums) - although the Mac is 100% multipurpose , and I can probably do almost the same stuff on my hardware+computer, I get lost in connections, setups, and by the time I’m ready to record or perform I’m a little bogged down by 15+ minutes of proper setup and I lose inspiration

The field I NEVER lose inspiration because if it hits me, I just find a patch and start recording and before I know it , I have the bones of a decent song within an hour or so.

My bad, clearly I’m passionate about the field lmao but so you know, as a metal guitarist, I love it and can’t believe it’s so boxed in when it has so so much potential

    Thanks

And btw, don’t do it yourself; take it to a luthier who at least works on lutes ! Those peGS can and will crack! (What country if I may? Ana urundi/musri)

  • Never realised you’ve left but, at any rate, welcome back!

  • Thanks man! (It was very brief , just a few months)

  • Hypnotic. Very cool. I didn’t know you also play guitar. Maybe some trippy solos over the top?
Glad you’re enjoying your new acquisition. I would love to get one, but I need new brakes.
    Have a good one!

ABF is so refreshing in that someone with your background as a metal guitarist, and the other rockers in here, jazz performers, doing this sort of stuff as well. Twenty years ago, us laptop musicians sharing nights at local venues with rockers, the shit talk was filled with vitriol. And so it once was with rockers, ect.
