While it seems like it mostly for beats/drums you can get some really good controlled distortion for bass and melodic stuff.
I like to follow it with WOTT.
The description on the page says the pedal is influenced by the Shin-Ei FY-2 and FY-6, so just try a bunch of fuzz effects and see if any of them are octave fuzz.
