AI stem separation on iOS? (DJay vs Remix Live ?)
I just discovered STEMZ on the App Store..One of the most expensive subs on iOS at 24.99 per month..Much more reasonable are DJay Pro by Algoriddim and Mixvibe’s “Loopmix”…Has anyone else used the latter two?what other alternatives are there? I know there’s Koala but the quality in the stem separation may not be quite there yet..

Ping. I know about Koala only on iOS
I use Lalal.ai - you can buy by the minute and they’re usually on sale. Excellent results, and you can isolate more instruments now. Also melody.ml is really good, you get two free tracks, and you may or may not be able to work that indefinitely using a private browser .
@RonnieOmelettes : Thanks , Ronnie . I forgot about that one
I’m probably the most interested in either remix live or DJay Pro
I've been using Transcribe+ for the past few years. It is easy to use, exports to the IOS Files app., works great on iphones and Ipads, separates vocals, drums, bass & instruments and is only $19.99 for the full unlock. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/transcribe-slow-down-music/id1048119179
I'd like to see a comparison of the options by the usual iOS youtube review suspects. On the desktop I use UVR which is optimized for M1 and supports the demucs algorithm among others.
Some apps use the same engine, or something like that.
I’ve had this app for a while but don’t recall what I paid. I think it’s good and would recommend it. The IAP options are confusing though. There are 2 “unlock everything” and 2 subscription options. Do you know what one gets for the 19.99 full unlock?
Djay Pro's stem separation is decent enough for live mixing, but I wouldn't rely on it for studio work if you need the highest quality samples. It's better than Koala's stem separation, but not on the same level as the desktop app RipX which is the best I've heard so far.
Also there's no direct stem export in Djay Pro, so I'm not sure if that would be something you would need, or if you plan to use it for live performances (there is a built-in recorder at least).
an alternative option
if you have a Mac or windows PC...
is download virtualDJfree... provides stems separation on the fly, is Free, alot to like about it
on the fly stem separation is not as good as computing stems ahead of time...
another consideration is Dj player on ios... it also has stems... probably the next best DJ application on IOS next to Djay & the stems aint too bad either for on the fly stems!!
Yikes @bluegroove , thanks for the no export heads up!!!
I think it unlocks all of the features but does not include a 'free' update to future versions.
I personally use Let’s unmix for stem separation and it does a fantastic job. I believe I paid less than $7 for it.
AFAIK most of the stuff on the market uses either the “spleeter” library or the “demucs” library. Demucs is more computationally expensive but produces better results. I use Nuo Stems on macOS, but that’s geared specifically to produce Traktor Pro stem files (it can also drop individual files per-stem). Works great. I haven’t heard anything “realtime” that I’d consider good enough to use except for mixing/transitions.
Don’t forget about Koala people. Koala. 🐨
Stem separation results are not so good though ? Artifacts and such.
The only good one is on the desktop in the name of Serato. I don't think you'll find something as good or better on iOS. Maybe flStudio will bring it to their mobile app since they implemented it on the desktop...could be worth an email to them.
This is my humble opinion of course. The Koala stem separation is great for most things. DJ Pro also does a good job.
UVR is on par with RipX quality wise which also uses Demucs under the hood. It doesn't just remove vocals as the name suggests, but is a free and open source multi algorithm stem separation tool that also utilizes the GPU (Apple Silicon, Cuda, OpenCL).

Definitely worth considering processing on a more powerful machine. I use iZotope RX which has been great at extracting stems from most tracks.
a member of this forum mentioned audacity free AI stem separation..... 'open vino AI'. I don't remember who it was but thanks and its a good option for PC.
I have Serato VST which is great for ease of use within Ableton.
Here's an interesting comparison video:
Disclaimer: the video was prepared by DJ Nuo, so not a neutral observer
To my ears, Serato and Nuo-Stems are about on par at the top. Rekordbox sounds like absolute dogshit, and Djay is not much better (they're both Spleeter based I believe). I'm surprised at how badly iZotope performs given how much everyone talks it up. TO BE FAIR, Rekordbox and Djay are both performing the splitting live. Demucs in high-quality mode would not be usable live, it's too CPU/GPU heavy. Again, I'm not sure I'd use any of these solutions to break down a track to an acapella vs. using them to do mix transitions. I don't think any of them really perform well enough for the output to stand on its own. I'm afraid I don't really have any insight into Koala or others as I haven't played with them.
Thanks @mjm1138 and @echoopera
Bandlab is a free option for iOS. Stem quality is really good. I can't compare directly with the DJ apps as I don't sub to any of them. I use Koala as well which I believe uses Spleeter. I find Demucs to be better for clean separations (Although Koala separations can provide some unique character).
The various free online sources for Demucs separation are excellent in my experience. Really amazing what we have access to for free now.
Here's a decent comparison of the various flavors and brands of stem separation, which if nothing else I think goes to show you don't need to spend $$ to get good stems these days. https://www.musicradar.com/news/5-best-stem-separation-software
Too bad they didn't include SpectraLayers. It's a really good stem separator, but it's not fast even on a good desktop machine.
Another comparison of stem separation algos here:

I think Bandlab is a pretty good option. Not sure it'll do what you need. My experience has been that the stem separation sounds better than anything else I've tried. I don't know if there are IAP but I'm getting what I 'm getting for free.
+1
Solid app and works fine for my use as well.

If you tried RipX, melody.ml or Lalala.ai you would maybe change your mind. Topic is asking about AI stem separation, not the honestly terrible yesteryears tech (relatively).
I’ll try them out, thanks!

RipX only works on desktop though, not on iOS .
