For what it's worth, I consider "The Best" total clickbait if the video doesn't include meaningful and detailed comparisons to the competition. If you've tried an awful lot of competing controllers, then put that in the content. Justify that word "best".
Anyway, I just got an Arturia Minilab 3, which sells at a mere $10 more than this one (or the same price if you get it in one of the St Pat's Day sales going on right now). Feeling no regrets.
Pretty sure it'll get more firmware updates and better support than this thing, and lack of a shiny purple option is a reasonable limitation to trade for that.
I need aftertouch sensitivity but I’m afraid the word sensitivity, here, is only used to mean velocity sensitivity… Or am I wrong?
I don’t think it’s clickbait. If you have a look at my channel you’ll see that I actually avoid the temptation to be clickbaity- and it really is a serious temptation for YouTubers. I ask the question in the title, give my reasons why I think it’s a strong contender and the best of the ones I’ve used. There are so many 25 key controllers available no reasonable person could actually expect me to be able to say yes, this is the absolute best - only the best in my experience. And yes, I’ve played a lot of them. My work takes me to a lot of music stores, trade shows and studios etc.. but I don’t own enough of them to do a big comparison thing. And if I did that would make the video extremely long and nobody watches super long videos. The point of being a YouTuber, if you do it right, is to gain some trust with your audience. To be someone whose opinion they value. I have enough experience and knowledge to be that person in some areas and I avoid the areas where I can not speak with some authority. I’ll always be honest about what I’ve played and what I haven’t played and never judge anything until I have. And I don’t take money to make my video biased either. I try to do this the right way as I see it but there’s always someone who can’t wait to pull you to pieces no matter how honest and discerning you are. It’s no surprise to me of course that the one and only criticism of my video so far comes from the Audiobus forum. I should’ve known!
In this price category, Keystep has cv out. How does this one compare to keystep?
Thanks for the video. An iOS app to make changes on the keyboard would be great but not a deal breaker.
I don't think you can compare the 2 fairly. It’s a different price bracket, different feature set, different number of keys… I mean the Keystep is awesome, it’s one of the best controllers I’ve ever used. I wouldn’t expect cv out on a 25 key controller and no it doesn’t have it. A fairer comparison would be to the Minilab Mk3 which has nicer keys (few do though) but the Synido has vastly superior pads. The TempoKEY doesn’t have the faders but it has more individual buttons and transport buttons. The new minilab has transport but on the substandard drum pads so you have to use shift to access those functions and I personally dislike that. Close one. But the Keystep is a different thing.
It would be great. It’s possible to change everything from the controller itself but I’ve really got into saving profiles for controllers. It can be a great time saver with the TempoPAD
Thanks bro. Much obliged.
@Jamie_Mallender. If you mentioned cost in the video I missed it. About how much is it? Also thanks for sharing. Well done.
Hi Ben. I don’t usually mention exact prices in videos because viewers could be anywhere in the world and they vary and there are so many different currencies. The price can also change in time. So I evaluate the product based on UK prices of the item in question and other similar products and leave it up to the viewer to google the price in their territory. The thing is though, that has caught me out a couple of times when a product has been ludicrously expensive in one territory for some bizarre reason and it has led to some outraged responses to my videos. I have as yet, to work out how to account for that 😂 On Synido’s website the controller is currently listed at $99.99
Looking over your other video titles and thumbnails now, you do seem to generally avoid the clickbaity stuff. Kudos for that! But the thumbnail for this one did feel clickbaity to me, because the video turned out to be much more of a unboxing-and-features-rundown than an evaluation of why this controller is The Best. The actual title of the video is bang on - "Synido TempoKEY K25 - Demo For iOS Musicians" - but for this viewer at least, the text in the thumbnail felt misleading.
That's all it was. I'm not questioning your integrity or honesty, just letting you know that I felt let down when that thumbnail segued into 5 minutes of unboxing.
I'm not trying to pull you to pieces. And I'm a little surprised to hear you feel that way when I only voiced a criticism you had already anticipated in your own words.
Just as you said about yourself, all I can do is share my own experience. Having seen only one of your videos, I have no basis to comment on how honest or discerning you are. If you got that from "this felt clickbaity", then I apologize for the miscommunication. All I meant by my comment was that I was primed to expect different content than I got, which to me is the essence of what "clickbait" means.
I certainly can't speak for an entire forum, and please don't let whatever ill feelings you might have about this exchange prevent you from enjoying the many good things it has to offer. My criticism was meant to be constructive, and I hope with this clarification that you can receive it, or at least ignore it, in that spirit.
Thanks for the video, and for the introduction to Synido.
Hey Jamie. Thanks for the response. I looked at Musicians Friend and Sweetwater before posting and didn’t see it.
That’s a very reasonable price.
This reply is articulate and considered. I have no doubt that it is sincere and I appreciate it. Thank you for taking time to consider what I had to say. Possibly, when you wrote your previous comment, you didn’t realise how it read, and how it might be taken. Now, I’m a really thick skinned guy. I’ve been a pro musician almost all my adult life, I’m tough to this stuff, you won’t bother me. But I’m trying to get across to people in this forum - just be nice. Many developers and content creators will not use this forum because of the way they are communicated with here. That doesn’t benefit the forum.
