Recent Hardware Purchases, Advice Request

edited March 2024 in Hardware

Hey! I recently made a number of hardware purchases, most were at low cost 🙏🏻 but I would love any advice you are willing to share if you own any of the following:

1010 Nanobox Lemon Drop: $100 off!
Arturia MiniBrute 2S and DrumBrute: two for the price of one!
ASM Hydrasynth Explorer: full price, but loving it 😍
Tascam Model 24: paid a 3rd of the cost!

    Cool stuff! Enjoy :-)

I’ve got a DrumBrute Impact and love it.

Jamming out patterns and tweaking the sounds as it plays is a lot of fun.

I’ve used it on a couple of songs recently.

I’ve been making music for decades as a hobby. On and off.

    Nice, me too 🙌🏽
I’ve come a long ways since free Fruity Loops 😂

  • I started with a Yamaha QX-21 sequencer. It had 2 midi tracks. And a 2 digit LED display.

  • Looking forward to what you come up with with all that new hardware :/) some cool stuff there for sure.

Oh wow! 2 tracks??? Lots of creativity to make that work

Haha yeah. You could merge tracks. I had a Yamaha FB-01 which was multi timbral and a Casio cz3000 and could make multi track midi with it. I thought it was great. Although I went from that to Opcode Vision on a Mac which was like upgrading a tricycle to a Ferrari.

  • Got a Hydasynth Explorer for 300 and something off reverb, and a cheap used Drumbrute Impact because it caught my eye at guitar Center when I ran out to get some cables. Really enjoying them both. Also recently picked up a Microcosm Chroma Console (full price) and rewarded myself for 1 year sober with a Juno 6!

Does the Tascam 24 do everything you hoped? Any tips on finding a deal on a 12?

  • Hi Mike, I also love the Hydrasynth Explorer! Since the update it has 1024 preset spaces. That got me to get some commercial preset banks. The one with boards of canada sounds I like the best.
You can put the explorer into mpe mode and then use it with the roli noise app...

Yes, I’m loving all the inputs and outputs it gives my MPC One! I’m now working on cabling all my synths (9) to the 24 so I can jam 🙌🏽

Facebook Marketplace is a goldmine 👍
Search there daily, I have found many great deals on gear in the Marketplace.

I ended up buying my Tascam 24 for $400 from a friend of my brother in law, who we didn’t realize we knew each other until we met up 😂 the mixer was sitting in his studio unused for over a year.

Man, Hydra is so lovely, I believe I bought the same presets you did which sound great! I can’t wait to try MPE mode. One question: I noticed some presets are low volume, have you run into this and if so, any fixes or insight?

  • I have gone through all the presets and just deleted the ones I did not like. So now I do not encounter any problematic presets.

😂 ahhh, I’ve read online some are weird.
I wonder if reinstalling factory presets might fix them?

If it’s one I’m thinking, try some of the macro knobs, they often work wonders.

Audioz has a bunch of commercial Hydrasynth presets - some nice Synthwave stuff too. Sorry if we’re not supposed to mention that here.

Perfect place to mention it for me, thank you!
Can you post a direct link to the Hydrasynth section?

I gotta say, I love how ASM laid out the synth routing on the Hydrasynth interface 😍 very thoughtful design. Makes me wanna create my own patches.

It is for a relatively complex synth, it has a logical and intuitive layout, possibly the best ever.

    I concur, it’s a bit of a masterpiece

I have a hydrasynth explorer also best $400 I’ve spent on gear

(One of two HW purchases, but hey I still find it impressive having ogled synths since the triton in the 80s but never getting one)

Kinda want to get a razzmatazz drum machine to round out my hardware. We'll see.

I feel you and Razzmatazz is a little beast!
