I really loved this! Did you use Cubasis for the production?
@jwmmakerofmusic Hi Jim. Yes, Cubasis all the way. Lately, I have been playing around with putting music under acapella vocals. I did one recently and got an insane number of plays on SoundCloud, so I figured I would try a few more. The process is pretty simple. I rummage through Looperman until I find something I like. Then I put that on track 1. Then I add some MIDI tracks beneath it. For this one I just used Ravenscroft. I determine the key and tempo, then I just start punching in notes in the MIDI editor and see how it sounds with the vocal track. Once I have a basic idea, I just start adding other bits and pieces. This one was pretty sparse. I only used Ravenscroft, a few little synth notes, and some choir. I found that the vocals become the main attraction, and you only need a little in the background. I had a short Geoshred guitar part in the empty spot near the end, but I pulled it out.
BTW - I wanted to say again how much I enjoyed your Irish EDM. What a great idea! I can almost picture the grin on your face when you first thought of it! That was completely fresh, new, and unexpected. Well thought out and well produced. Nice work (or play), mate!
Paulie, idk when/if you started using ravenscroft more recently or I was away for a couple of months and missed it but your on a roll man. I might’ve asked you this but do you use a midi controller or iPad to play?
I only use an iPad and my finger (or stylus). I played in bands for decades and I have a closet full of keyboards, but I'm too lazy to get them out and hook them up. For this one I just used the MIDI editor in Cubasis. Most of the time I like to use Piano Motifs in combo with the MIDI editor. It takes a little time, but I usually have a cool refreshing adult beverage at my side. My wife always knows where I am, and she likes that. Thanks for listening!
Amazing what you can do with your finger 😊
Would have been nice to hear the GS guitar part.
It’s impressive how you sort of reverse engineer a track…. Very nice !
These types of songs don’t get a lot of attention on the forum, but seem to get a few plays on SoundCloud. It’s fun. I use Piano Motifs and try different things under the vocal track. They don’t always work out, but once in a while I hear something nice. I’ll try to use GS in a future post. Thanks for listening!
