My new album
Pleased to say that my new album Stories and Imagery is now out on all streaming platforms. It’s been two years in the making and features many of the songs that I have shared on this very forum. I’d particularly like to thank @richardyot for the Song of the Month club thread which featured many of the album’s songs and to all whose feedback has been invaluable.

Congratulations, I’ll take a listen as soon as I have some time 👍
Cheers Richard. Funny thing albums, I still gravitate towards making them even though I know the audience is, ahem, limited. But just as I like completing a song, the same applies to albums. I feel like I’ve achieved something- a finished product if you like. Now it’s done, complete, I can move onto something else with a clear head knowing that one is boxed away.

It's a very long album! A double album you prog-rocker you 😛
Some outstanding guitar parts in there, the acoustic guitar in Manning The Grill is exquisite, same goes for Mother. The whole production is very clean and all the performances are outstanding, technically excellent in every department, and the arrangements are very well crafted. Nothing is left to accident here.
Love the strings that appear on a few tracks as well. Mother was my favourite song.
Excellent! I have to agree about the acoustic guitar on Manning The Grill. Can you tell me what you used for the violin on Night Rider? I will listen to more when I get a moment. The boss has other plans for me at the moment. Congratulations on getting it all together and putting it out there. Nice work!
Well done, Bill. My favorite was Weight of Expectation. Good guitarism throughout and excellent production.
@richardyot @Paulieworld @LinearLineman Honestly guys, you’ve made my evening. Thank you so much for taking the time to listen and your very kind words, it’s deeply appreciated.
Paul, the violin on Night Rider is GeoShred’s GeoViolin. I double tracked a few notes to give the impression of the bow playing across two strings at once, as it’s not possible to do that in GeoShred in one take.
Two years well spent Bill 🙏
The whole album is a tremendous, real variety, great playing, catchy lyrics… blah, blah, blah… lost for words really 😊
Really enjoyed Weight of Expectation and the guitar playing throughout, especially Pour my Love, Pocket full of Yes Men and Mother.
I know I added a bit of Viola to one of your creations but there’s some mean Viola / Violin playing going on here 🙏
It’s as good an album as I’ve heard in a long time. You should be very pleased with it 👌
I like it, very mellow, great job. 👏
@GeoTony thank you so much for listening and your feedback. I love doing what I do and it’s great to know you enjoyed it. I used the GeoShred violin - isn’t it great to have these incredible instruments at our disposal?
@Raggamuffin73 thank you!
Congratulations @BillS always happy to see a forum member doing things.
Definitely. That’s well said, I truly need to buckle down and put something together.
@BillS
Did you mostly use iOS or desktop or a split? And if iOS what apps did use the most?
My background for years was desktop. First started getting interested in iOS four years ago. Had lots of fun plugging an iPad into a PC and combining the two. There have been lots of frustrations with iOS, but some real highs too. As a linear songwriter, I found Cubasis the best on iOS but it was still pretty woeful compared to the desktop. Logic Pro for iPad has changed the games - it is light years ahead of any other traditional DAW on the iPad, it’s mainly a joy to use - especially if you avoid too many AUv3s. Also, combined with a standard qwerty keyboard and using keyboard shortcuts, I find LP4i very slick.
I used GeoShred on the album for both the violin sounds and for some of the electronic sounds. It’s a brilliant app and there’s nothing like it on desktop. I also used the Swam alto sax app.
Also AUM - just great for sketching ideas. The song Weight of Expectation came about by combining a GeoShred lead sound with a strings preset in Pure Synth Platinum. AUM makes this sort of thing so easy, and I love it.
Also, a massive shout out to the KB-1 Keyboard. Using the scales in that app has led me in many new directions - in particular it’s helped me use scales I’d never have thought of using before, and again, it makes it so easy. The keyboard in LP4i can do that job really well now too.
For years, one of my bugbears with iOS was the lack of good acoustic drum program, and again, LP has largely filled that gap for me.
For guitars, the Nembrini apps are excellent on the iPad- even the free Crunk amp is really good, and I used it on a couple of the tracks.
I used a BeatHawk bass guitar on one track.
For mastering 90% of the album was done on the desktop (IZotope Ozone Advanced), but a couple of songs were mastered using the mastering assistant in LP - I actually got better results this way on those two tracks.
Scaler is another app which has taken my songwriting in new directions, and although I had it on desktop before, its availability on iPad just makes it so easy and accessible.
Overall, I’d guess that more time was spent on the desktop than iOS in the making of Stories and Imagery, BUT, it is a much better album than it would have been had I not spent a lot of time learning about iOS apps over the past few years. I spend a lot more time on this forum than any other music forum and I’m hugely grateful for all the advice, guidance and inspiration that being here has given me!
Just had a listen. Very impressive. Really clean production - all the tracks sound crisp and excellent.
Love the acoustic guitar sounds and great electric guitar playing too. The GeoShred Violin also sounds wonderfully realistic.
A work to be proud of!
Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to listen and your kind remarks, really appreciated!
Bill I love that eggshells song, it’s brilliant. What did you use for drums? Where they real drums?
@Raggamuffin73 great to know you like Eggshells! I was really happy with how it turned out. The “drums” on the intro and outro was actually a SynthMaster Player preset called PL Pulse Plucker BT. The main drums running through the song however was EZ Drummer 3 (desktop only unfortunately) - I used the Classic Rock drum kit in the “Bright room”.
The sleeve notes (linked above) explain the song’s lyrics. It was written so quickly!
Many thanks for taking the time to listen.
Brilliant, thank you
