JWM - Dirge (Track created in Koala, Mastered in Logic)
I wanted to create something that had a Dubstep feel to it, but was NOT Dubstep. So this was the result of that. Drums are KB6.de samples, most instruments from Beathawk. I forgot what the bass was sampled from, but that one lead synth is BA-1. Bloody ripper synth, that.
Anyways, cheers and enjoy this quick throwaway track.

Sounds great. I enjoyed the bass, hats, and lead especially. For a “quick throwaway track”, it is even more impressive
Thank you so much mate. Needed to release something while stuck in music creation burnout. I slapped some random shit together and called it a day. 😂
Nice work for throwaway!
Thanks mate. We'll see what I do now. Probably pick up some Zyn pouches (my stop vaping aide), a carwash, and then I see the "Easter Bunny" (my cousin in costume lol).😂 I'll probably sit at the park pavilion for a bit and see if I can make a new track.
Great little tune for a one off. Engaging structure and melodies. I'm impressed you were able to squeeze such a fleshed out piece out of Koala. When I'm sketching I lose patience too quickly and move into a daw or somesuch. Love the interplay between the synth lines. It's really apparent around 1:20 when everything drops out except two synth lines.
I have to agree with all of the above. You seem to have a knack for coming up with catchy melodies. Simple, but sticks in my head. Great production, too. Any chance of another Irish themed track?
Good stuff! Almost sounds like a baroque piece with the harpsichord-like sound. Very catchy!
@ecamburn Mate, this just made my early evening complete. Well, I will say that I've learned a lot from trying to produce Pop a couple months ago as far as layering sounds and arrangement go. Koala is such an amazing app, and working within its limitations compared to, say, something like FLSM forces more creative decisions in arrangement other than "filter one part in, filter another out". I mean, if I want sounds from other plugins into Koala, I have to sample the oneshots via AUM into Koala. Same goes for FLSM since DW Sampler doesn't have all the sounds I'd like. I do this per project, not in general, because I find searching for sounds can inspire the melodies and vice versa.
@Paulieworld We shall see about that next Irish track, mate. Right now, I'm heavily inspired by a certain awesome Lady with an Apptitude for creating some really amazing music, and I came up with this instrumental...

...in Koala, which will eventually be turned into a fully fledged ABABCB song. What the lyrics will be about, I have no clue just yet. The first thing to finish is creating the vibe within that ABABCB song form.
@michael_m Thank you my good friend. I watched this one video where a lot of the modern greats of the past 50 or so years cited Bach as their inspiration, and I was like, "Well, I'm stuck in a rut, so why not try something like Bach?" That said, I have no clue if the Alberti Bass was ever utilised by Mr. Johann based on my foggy memory alone, but the bass figure seemed to fit the melody just fine in the harpsichord part.
You’ve dirged and jigged recently which is spooky as those are the themes of a track I’m working on 😊
I can categorically say that mine will sound nothing like yours which as usual are impeccably played and produced.
No idea how you do it but long may it (and you) continue 🙏
Nice! Can't wait to hear your track, my friend.
Thanks mate, but I think yours will sound excellent too.
Me, I do it by getting hopped up on caffeine every morning, lol. 😂 That, and stubbornly sticking to using my iPhone for most of my production work instead of sitting at a desk all day with an iPad Pro. This is how I get more sh-t done.
Cool track. Sounds a bit halloweeney/spooky :-) I second those that are impressed you can get all of this out of Koala.
I never really got past the sampling of hitting pots and pans stage with Koala, let alone making an actual tune with it!
